The powers that be get more desperate

HARARE – It has been another hectic few weeks of frenetic spinning and lying by authorities and lickspittle State media, amid the country's dying economy and the seemingly unstoppable factional and succession wars devouring President Robert Mugabe's post-congress Zanu PF.

The main target of these lies and gratuitous attacks by the State, the ruling party and their hired guns have been the country's independent media - all for the crime of telling it like it is, without fear or favour, as our motto at the Daily News goes.

And with the desperate times clearly demanding desperate measures from the powers that be, a very desperate media dinosaur, as well as a supposed senior civil servant - who should speak with dignity for the highest office in the land but chooses to play the role of an uncouth Zanu PF zealot - have been roped in, in this disgraceful tomfoolery and assault on the media.

The well-known media dinosaur - by all accounts still deeply despised by the country's tinpot dictatorship, including its apparatchiks at State media - is expediently being given ample space at these propaganda hubs at the moment, to do a hatchet job on the independent media, and to criminally lie about sub judice court cases involving the desperate charlatan.

In the case of the supposed senior civil servant, who played a leading role in the unjust closure of the Daily News in September 2003 for eight long years, and who bizarrely and openly boasted to journalism students in Harare a few years later about this thuggery (we have the full video tape of this and promise to release it at an appropriate time), it real is time that even the desperate powers that be realise that this scandal-ridden ruffian is a huge liability to them, never mind the country.

But we digress.

That Zimbabwe has been a mess politically and economically for most of the past 35 years of the country's independence from Britain is not really a subject for much debate. The damning evidence is there everywhere for all to see.

Similarly, it does not require a rocket scientist to identify the real cause of the myriad man-made crises that continue to batter and traumatise long-suffering citizens: it is the 'legendary' misrule of Mugabe and Zanu PF -- not alleged Western sanctions, "evil" whites or the country's media and opposition.

Thus, the renewed onslaught against the Daily News and other independent media is intended to silence us, so that the hyenas in power can continue to misgovern, loot, rape and pillage the country with reckless abandon — without fear of ever being exposed.

We have news for these lowlifes. This won’t happen, certainly not on our watch. And there will be no mythical donor funds involved as we continue to expose Zimbabwe's rot -- and as the real enemies of our nascent democracy once again attempt to behead the bearer of the bad news rather than deal with the barbarians behind the rot.

It is beyond bizarre that the independent media is being blamed for all of Zimbabwe's and Zanu PF's problems, including the ruling party’s mindless bloodletting.

With regards to the country's lickspittle State, they fully and embarrassingly embody the proverbial principle of “seeing no evil, hearing no evil and speaking no evil”. Turning a blind eye to, and abetting Zanu PF's misrule is their indisputable stock-in-trade -- never ever daring to question their master’s voice.

It is also the understatement of the year to say that if there are problematic areas of Zimbabwe's media, these have always been ZBC and Zimpapers.

Surely this is not rocket science, even when one analyses the coverage of Zanu PF’s well-documented factional and succession wars by these contemptible propaganda mouthpieces, and as they mount wave after wave of despicable lies against the independent media.

Yesterday, The Herald -- that grand dame of political fibs -- even went to the ridiculous extent, through one of its writers, of "informing" its much lied to and abused readers that the Daily News had allegedly now moved out of Harare's city centre to Msasa because of financial stress!

It is frankly disgusting the extent to which this regime and its minions will abuse State apparatus and lie so blatantly to long-suffering Zimbabweans in their desperate bid to extend their dying kleptocracy.

But there is method to all this madness, and it is to crush anyone and anything that threatens Zanu PF, including the independent media and imaginary ghosts!

For those who may have forgotten, our printing press was completely destroyed in a barbaric bombing in January 2001 — that was widely believed to have been carried out by State agents who were never brought to book for their dastardly act.

And finally, Mugabe’s government contrived to shut down the Daily News violently and unjustly in September 2003, after it enacted a legal instrument solely for this morbid purpose. The paper was only able to return to the market in late March 2011.

Sadly, history has recorded that some of the worst excesses of Zanu PF’s well-documented misrule of the past 35 years occurred around the time that the Daily News was out of circulation — including Operation Murambatsvina, a record hyperinflation and the vengeful murders of opposition supporters that followed Mugabe’s stunning loss to Morgan Tsvangirai in the disputed 2008 elections.

This is who these hyenas really are!

SaManyika Chaiye - 3 November 2015

Something not right regarding your website, for weeks now you don't upload anything and if you do its uploaded at 5PM when most of the stuff if stale news already. This is whats leading the state media to speculate that you are in deep trouble. Coming to the editorial above, its a hard hitting one, big words and I presume its directed to Charamba who is trying but pathetically failing to do a propaganda job for the dysfunctional zanu

The good thing about all sane zimbabweans is they no longer read or listen to state media . When they do what ever they would have read they know is blue lies and rubbish . The daily news is the only true independent paper which is not a pretender and sellout like some so called independent news papers which praise evil in order for them not to shut down or bombed . The daily news is the only true eye of the nation it does not tell lies that is why it was bombed many times as we all know the truth is bitter and some people hate it even in the bible Jesus was killed for telling it like it is . .But some of us are not thathekile we stand by this paper till donkeys grow horns .Daily news tulakuyanda kapati tolaluumba milimo wanu god bless this news paper.

Zvavepapi - 3 November 2015

I enjoy reading Daily news on daily basis. Its rather unfortunate that I am a Mozambican residing in Mozambique and cannot buy the daily hard copy here. For the past weeks or so your news is no longer daily as your name sounds as we read it o the next day.

Chadder Simon - 3 November 2015

Continue to tell it as it is, without fear or favour. Everyone appreciates the heroic acts you have demonstrated in face of death threats from ZANU PF. I salute you

Grievance Mafunga - 3 November 2015

I'm also fond of Daily News online, but as of late it has become frustrating to visit the Daily News website as they never update it! There's never an update on weekend. Chronicle and Herald update their sites everyday at midnight. Please try to keep up with the rest of the pack....To make matters worse, today you just added ONE article! come on!!

NKOSI - 3 November 2015

It took 3 days for this paper to upload a story they have been telling us since 2003. Really?

Mentalist - 3 November 2015

Comrade Mentallist please don't lie. The Daily News was shut down by the government in 2003 and only came back in 2011. So, how was the paper telling you the same story all this time?

Kt - 3 November 2015

Your language is as foul as and unprofessional as that used by people you criticise. What is the difference between you and them?

Nandipa Nkhatazo - 3 November 2015

Hawu, wena Nandipha, did you want Daily News to keep quiet while it is being insulted everyday? What I know is that Zanoids like dishing it out and not receiving the same treatment. So, big up to Daily News!

Morena - 3 November 2015

@Kt u are right to a certain extent. Daily news told us about the government's move to close daily news almost everyday in 2003 and then they continued to tell us the same story after reopening in 2011.

Mentalist - 4 November 2015

Encrypt your hard-drives and secure your servers so you can continue on the internet. These Klingons will close you down as they desperately Cling-On to power. The factional and succession wars are obviously hurting if these Klingons are threatening media freedom. Our Lick-spittle media revel in any rumor of division in the opposition much of which is engineered by the CIO. Save for the CIO you have the right to do the same. ZanuPF factionalism really has hit a nerve! Tension over our Klingon-in-chief's succession, is that Klingons own fault. He simply won't hand over the whip, certainly not to fellow Klingon's outside of his family

Nooshie - 4 November 2015

It will seem that Daily News does not consider this consistent cry from readers that they take forever to update their site. I am a South African who can only access Zimbabwe's news on-line only. I ascertain that I read the Herald which, unfortunately always update their site , albeit I take their stories with a pinch of salt. I always expect Daily News to give us the other side of the story, but alas, we have come to expect one update every three days. Wake up and smell the coffee. Even New Zimbabwe is doing better that Daily News.

Balanganani Waniwa - 4 November 2015

Finally, Daily News responds to all the weird hatred and scapegoating it gets from those despots of zhanu and you hit below the belt, no pulling punches and keep on the good fight zvichapera handiti havachagone kufamba vasina ma aides, yaswedera nguva yechinja! Website needs to be updated on time please

pamberineindependentmedia - 4 November 2015

I do no buy the daily news because you guys take us for granted. You put misleading headlines just to attract us then when one buys the paper they are left feeling foolish for falling for it. Newsday has now taken your place as the flag bearer, I for one will not miss you. The old daily news was different, this new one is useless.
