Socialite Genius speaks out

HARARE - Controversial socialite and businessman Genius Kadungure says celebrities from 10 African countries attended the recent all-white party he recently hosted in Sandton, South Africa to celebrate his 31st birthday.

Speaking through his spokesperson Shaleen “Ms Shally” Nullens, the Domboshava-born founder of Piko Group-a diversified company with interests in gas and solar-also poured cold water on reports that his lavish celebrations were disrupted by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

“Genius enjoyed his birthday celebration from beginning to end. We are aware of the different articles that have been published in papers in different countries. Such is expected considering Genius’ stature.

“Genius is very thankful to his family and friends who all came through to celebrate his birthday with him at Le Chatelat Residence in Sandton,” says Ms Shally, Genius’s PR Manager.

While acknowledging that Genius spares no expenses when he hosts parties, the Johannesburg-based Ms Shally was quick to point out that the young businessman was not a party animal.

“Though many view Genius as a party animal, partying is not what he always does when he is not in the office. He is busy mentoring five young upcoming entrepreneurs, assisting them with viable strategies and funding. Genius also visits at least one charity home quarterly helping with donations,” she said.

Genius’ spokesperson added that the young businessman had accumulated a lot of wealth thanks to hard work.

“As many would know he drives only top brand cars- Bentley, Mercedes Benz, Range Rover, Rolls Royce. These are the cars you will find in his garage.

“Genius loves to travel and spend time with his friends in his top class penthouse in Sandton, where only top business executives can afford to buy. Though the penthouse is his favourite, he has two more big houses in the top class places in South Africa,” claimed Ms Shally.

According to Genius’ public relations officer, the young businessman’s road to the top was awash with obstacles.

“Genius’ fortune did not come his way easy. He constantly had to be on his toes in order to prove himself to get bigger deals .Giving up was never an option. No matter what came his way he knew he had to keep going.

“He managed to buy his own car within the first year of trading; thereafter as his entity grew he bought himself a Mercedes Benz S Class. His journey was not a smooth one but surely inspires the youth that you can surely achieve anything you want if you do not give up,” claimed Ms Shally.

The socialite has been in a relationship with businesswoman Zodwa Mkandla who reportedly missed the recent birthday celebrations but Ms Shally refused to reveal whether the two businesspersons are still an item.

“Genius is very happy with his current status and would appreciate if people could respect his privacy when it comes to his relationship,” was all she could say.

Ms Shally was, however, happy to reveal Genius’ plans to give back to the community.

“Genius has been enjoying the continuous success in his business and will be expanding into different ventures, which fall under his line of expertise. He will be also be involved in a lot of philanthropic work in South Africa and in Zimbabwe to uplift those in need. He will be working with some South African celebrities on this philanthropic project,” she said.

Genius has generated a lot of interest since 2011 when he reportedly spent US$17000 on an all – white party in Greystone Park.

In 2013 he is said to have flown guests from Zimbabwe for his 28th birthday in Botswana which reportedly cost US$ 32000.

Ms Shally refused to reveal the amount of money Genius poured into the recent all-white party.

Fire your publicist. Very amateurish commentary that shows lack of knowledge and belittles your success. ''As many would know he drives only top brand cars- Bentley, Mercedes Benz, Range Rover, Rolls Royce. These are the cars you will find in his garage.'' What has this got to do with anything? Is this a sign of wealth? Among wealthy people car collections are just a hobby, not a representation of wealth. If she is a publicist, she should know that. “Genius loves to travel and spend time with his friends in his top class penthouse in Sandton, where only top business executives can afford to buy." Again, what has this got to do with anything? Musicians, heirs, lottery winners, widows and thrifty people can all buy penthouses. A publicist should always downplay your success and never reveal too much. Show her the door.

I met Genius a few years ago. He was humble and respectful to me. He told me what he does for a living and I saluted his entrepreneurial spirit. He has created jobs for a lot , paid school fees for the less privileged and has inspired many in his course of action. I need all haters to learn from this African son , God gives those who deserve. Try and look further than the cars and dwell on the good that has come out of his hussle. We are fortunate to have guys like him , let's celebrate our own. He will continue to err like any other guy from his demographic era , bottomline is give credit where it is due. I live in South Africa , I became a billionaire a few years ago. I feel less fortunate because success is nothing if you can't share it with your home boys on home soil. I own a Bentley , a Lamborghini Aventador and a Gulfstream 111 and so forth , I have a million haters who have turned into fans . I recently completed my MBA. Among my employees from South Africa I employ over 250 so-called illegal immigrants from Zim. If I don't uplift my own people in South Africa who is going to come to their rescue. Let's promote each other , stop hating . To Genius , I salute you young man! Wako Mukoma Owen wekwa Machona from Gokwe Rural Areas. Proudly from maruzevha.
