Mugabe succession: Let's think outside the box

EDITOR — Allow me to express my views on the hot topic of succession in Zanu PF. I have been a staunch supporter of Zanu PF under President Robert Mugabe for more than two decades but it does not make me blind to the realities on the ground.

One of the most contentious issues which is slowly eating our party is factionalism and I believe President Mugabe must show his leadership qualities by stopping this rot because if it gets out of hand, the effects will be so devastating. There will be no Zanu PF to talk about in the near future.

At play are two factions one led by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the other by Dr Amai Grace Mugabe.

The truth of the matter is no matter how vigorous the president denies that there is factionalism in Zanu PF, the reality is that it does exist and will not end anytime soon. But there is really nothing wrong with people aspiring to succeed the president, after all he is now 91 years old.

VP Mnangagwa and Dr Amai have, however, tainted themselves in the process of fighting for power and it is against this background that we the moderates in Zanu PF must come up with someone neutral to succeed the president.

We need people who are educated but understand things like economics, we need businessmen who can run for presidency, people who understand business like your Antony Mandiwanza, John Mushayavanhu, retired Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono and even current RBZ governor John Mangudya.

Where are these people while the country is headed for the abyss? Yes, we agree that most of the above are greenhorns in politics and might not even be politicians but Gono stands out because he is already a member of Zanu PF and would have been a senator had he not been blocked by factionalists in Zanu PF.

This begs the question, where is Gono? Here is a man who two weeks ago flatly denied that he is involved in the factionalism that has destroyed our country.

During the 2008 economic crisis, Gono worked with President Mugabe to rescue the country from total collapse. He turned around CBZ Bank to be what it is today.

I read your story about the dark horses to replace President Mugabe and you portrayed him as one of them. I agree.

During the crisis of 2008/9, he was the de facto prime minister and we were able to survive. Let’s also look at the likes of Mandiwanza and Mushayavanhu who have been very successful in their business areas.

Guys let’s look outside the box because inside the box there is nothing except factionalism.

What we want is a leader who will engage everyone for investments in the country, a leader who has respect for both the West and Asia in countries like China.

They could settle for Shuvai Mahofa as first female president kkkkkkkkkkk!

Dr Gono could be the successor that the prez has been finding it difficult to sell to the liberation war credentials preoccupied zanoids! Then enters the First Lady. If she could be accepted into top echelons of Zanu pf without war credentials,so can Gono. She was accepted, tuning zanoid minds to get used to the idea of having a non combatant as leader of the party, and country! Smart, very smart! And I think Dr Gono might turn out to be a safe compromise for zanoids and the ordinary Zimbo ,who is sickened by the same hardline Zanu Pf one directional blundering.

Gideon's bush economics ruined this country from 2003 to 2009 when his powers were clipped by the GNU and Biti. He brought hyperinflation upon us with his hare-brained schemes. Remember Baccossi, Foliwas, price controls, looting, empty shelves, bearer checks, etc. The economic decline we then experienced was unprecedented for a country not at war. He is absolutely bad news for this country.

how can Gono run the country when he is failing to run his chicken farm. things went well at his farm during his tenure as RBZ governor because he could easily syphone money and equipment earmaked for farm mechanisation to his own use now that he is out of office, the results are obvious, broke business. go to norton and see it yourself-huku dzodyana mapesu ndokunge dzichiriko by now

The people mentioned here do make sense as possible candidates. However I would us to know that success in one sector of life may not gurantee success in politics...Maisyiwa for example could have been successful in telecoms but will that make hi m a good political leader..?

Please let us not try & sugarcoat a rotten egg. There's nothing good about Zanu...

You cannot put new wine into old wine-skins, patch shrunk cloth with un-shrunk cloth. ZanuPF think with their emotions and they will never change their attitudes (and I mean NEVER). Only God's grace will change this country .

Oh my God!!! I deeply thank Cedric for helping me to win at a casino. I am a disabled person who had tried a lot of people but without help, but after I heard and read in the papers about people testifying about Cedric's free super casino/lotto rings (for gambling). I decided to go and have my last chance as I was in financial crisis. My house was about to be repossessed, my car was already repossessed, I couldn't even manage to put bread on the table, my children were extremely uncontrollable as I wasn't able to take care of them. I visited Cedric and he charged me R300 consultation, He prayed for me, gave me the free super magic ring & I went to the casino. Immediately I was winning at the tables, I was so surprised, I tried the machines and I won jackpots after jackpots. I deeply send my appreciation to Cedric because my family is together again. I paid off my debts, house bonds and I am happy in my new business. call +27604180512 Email at profashaf@gmail.com OR www.profshaf.co.za

Its a pity that some Zimbabweans have a very short memory. They have forgoten Gonomics which brought about 500 million % hyperinflation. The highest in the world. The Zimbabwe economy is in dire straits becoz of Gono's policies which destroyed the Zimbabwe Dollar and all financial assets like savings, pensions etc. Gono is tainted and will not be able to get the Zimbabwe economy out of this mess. In any case Gono is not in good standing with the International Financial community. In this day and age Gono believes that u can devt an economy thru excessive and reckless printing of money. Do people remember Gono's moto "From zeros to heros"? Where is the Zimbabwe economy with 13 zeros which he lopped from the ZWD?People should be more serious than this!
