Mujuru to work with Tsvangirai

HARARE - Concerted efforts by the post-congress Zanu PF to torpedo the mooted electoral pact between former Vice President Joice Mujuru and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai appear to have hit the skids after the People First movement reiterated its eagerness to work with the MDC yesterday.

People First spokesperson Rugare Gumbo told the Daily News yesterday that Mujuru was “more than prepared” to work with Tsvangirai — with the liberation struggle stalwart gushingly describing the former prime minister in the Government of National Unity as having consistently “exhibited true leadership qualities”.

Speaking in the wake of heightened attacks on the mooted deal by President Robert Mugabe’s lieutenants and other detractors, Gumbo said it was “most disheartening that focus is being put on politics when millions of Zimbabweans are suffering because of the post-congress Zanu PF’s failed policies”.

“We have said it before and we will say it now, we are ready to work with any democratic forces in the country be it Welshman Ncube, Dumiso Dabengwa, Simba Makoni or Tsvangirai.

“We have engaged some of these leaders and talks are in progress,” a relaxed Gumbo said.

Since Mujuru launched her Blueprint to Unlock Investment and Leverage for Development manifesto, which has received widespread approval, the much-harassed widow of the late national hero, Solomon Mujuru, has come under heavy political attack from her former comrades in the post-congress Zanu PF.

Tsvangirai has also since moved to accuse the ruling party of trying to throw spanners in the works and scuttle the mooted alliance between him and the former VP, including using some elements in the MDC to do so.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily News on Monday, the MDC president said his party’s thrust, at the moment, was not to focus on who would lead the envisaged coalition of opposition parties, but to concentrate on efforts to remove Mugabe and Zanu PF from power.

“I am worried about the current infiltration by Zanu PF agents to destabilise opposition alliances. Speaking as the president of the MDC, I would like to make it clear that we are and we will work with Mai Mujuru and all other opposition parties to ensure that we deliver real freedom and a better life to Zimbabweans.

“Our enemy as opposition parties is Zanu PF not Mai Mujuru and other opposition leaders,” the battle-hardened Tsvangirai said.

And Gumbo swiftly moved to buttress this view yesterday, saying the abiding aim of his group was to form “a viable alliance with positive-minded people” like Tsvangirai.

“One should understand that there is need for all democratic forces to come together to remove this autocratic government. But for now it is not possible to form a coalition because we are still to formally come up with our own party.

“It is Zanu PF which is trying to destabilise the mission. Fortunately, Tsvangirai has come out clean and displayed beyond doubt that he is a true leader,” Gumbo said, adding that, “for now the mission is to expose Zanu PF’s ineptitude through offering alternative solutions”.

“People should not be pre-occupied with trailing us and trying to derail the formation of our party because that is as good as done. We will form our party and that is definite,” Gumbo said.

With the post-congress Zanu PF consumed by vicious factional and succession wars, and the economy in freefall as ministers commit themselves  more to party business rather than bread and butter issues, Gumbo said it was a matter of time before the ruling party was turfed out of power.

The Daily News has previously reported that Tsvangirai and Mujuru have been talking through emissaries over the past few months, to explore how they can work together to challenge Mugabe and the post-congress Zanu PF in the eagerly-anticipated 2018 national elections.

It is understood that among other meetings by various other players, former ambassador to Germany and close Tsvangirai confidante, Hebson Makuvise, recently met former Presidential Affairs minister and key Mujuru ally, Didymus Mutasa, to “explore options”.

But threatened by the prospects of Mujuru and her People First outfit, as well as the potency of the manifesto that she released

recently, a panicky Zanu PF, its senior officials and other sycophants have gone into overdrive over the past few weeks bad-mouthing the former VP in a desperate bid to try and discredit her and her manifesto.

Unfortunately, for many ruling party apparatchiks, particularly those active on social media, the public sentiment has been overwhelmingly positive to Mujuru and her manifesto, even as people have also said that they would like to see her distancing herself more from her decades of association with Mugabe and Zanu PF.

Mugabe’s warring party split into two bitterly-opposed formations at the end of last year at the height of its internal ructions, with its purged liberation struggle stalwarts moving to initiate the re-establishment of the “original” Zanu PF — which uses the slogan People First.

Mujuru has been very magnanimous and mature in her approach as she reenters the political arena. She has shown no regard whatsoever to the characteristic fowl mouthing of zanunoids as if that alone can win the battle. No one takes the govt media mouth pieces seriously anyway. Its no secret that everyone has been waiting to hear her response after she had been ruthlessly violated. Alas she responded instead with a dynamic policy that is aimed at rescuing us from this debilitating economic quagmire we find ourselves in. Carry on guys. I for one am backing you. Save has already shown his sincerity as far working together with those of the opposite camp is concerned when he pulled helped pull this country out the doldrums in the former inclusive govt. Lets have sanity rocking here and take this demon zanupf out from our midst

Realist - 8 October 2015

these people first guys want power for the sake of it. they were architects of the current political quagmire that the country finds itself in for 34 years and were it not for their gamatoxing, could still be part of the grave train!!! do you remember the vitriol coming out of the mouths of kaukonde, mliswa and mutasa and imagine those guys kindly serving people. I support mdc going it alone!!!

josphat mugadzaweta - 8 October 2015

Mujuru (the mattress tester) and the horny Morgan Tsvangirai What a bizarre couple. Both are incompetent IDIOTS. Zanu pf must be rolling around from lauhhing too much. No wonder that the west now fully supports the Zanu pf criminal enterprise. ..

Clement Oriface - 8 October 2015

@ Clement You seem so pained by the two working together bcoz surely you as a border gezi former student with no qualifications to work for CIO which you are working for will loss the job once Mugabe is removed by the two hence hallucinating here hoping that Zimbabweans are idiots like and will buy your rubbish . Better start looking for a job out of CIO bcoz now Mugabe yena hamba this time yanisi . By the way Mugabe is no longer feeling horny at 91 and that is natural at that age although his wife still does and is missing being toppled .

Diibulaanyika - 8 October 2015

Tsvangirai has gone it alone for 3 elections it would be futile if he tried to do that again. If he goes alone he will win the election but have no power base. What he needs now is to come face to face with reality that getting power in Zimbabwe is complex and you need the Mujuru element. Let by-gones be by-gones for a prospective Zimbabwe. Let a democratic process decide who will lead any alliance. If you you do not allow a democratic process to decide then you are as power hungry as the system you purport you want to remove. It is time for the level-headed people with Zimbabwe at heart to make humble decisions.

Mujuru and company's blood is zanu pf and will never change.. Zanu pf still owns mujuru and company.. Tsvangirai is being swallowed broad daylight by zanu pf. If Mnangwagwa gets ejected from zanu pf then what? Another pact and will no longer be the enemy. What democracy do mujuru and company know? Rugare is not even ashamed to mention leadership of Morgan. "much harrassed widow" thats nonsense. Mujuru is in her comfort give us a break.Morgan is making a big mistake and this time he is not coming out.

X-MAN IV - 8 October 2015

mujuru is demonstrating more maturity than tsvingirai. mujuru for president in 2018.

tula - 8 October 2015

Mai Mujuru, Rugare Gumbo, Mutasa they all should take a rest coz they have done enough damage to democracy, Zimbabwe is in a mess courtesy of them.

Mudhiniwe - 8 October 2015

vana rugare gumbo tibvirei apa. hupenyu hwese muchiuraya nyika muri muZANU. Rest in peace Zimbabwe no longer needs you, joyce, mutasa and tsvangirai too. we need a new zimbabwe!!

hapana - 9 October 2015

I find it pathetic that Gumbo is essentially saying that the position we are in is as a result of policies in the 9 months after Mujuru and co were kicked out. What the hell are these "post-congress" policies and how do they differ from the pre-congress ones?

Tawanda - 9 October 2015

@X-MAN IV.......totally agree with you, this may be the end of MDC T, I think naivety has hit many of us, probably because of desperation or anxiety....this is the best chance for MDC Tsvang to go it alone since zanu is so fragile. Instead, for some reason it seems MDC is willingly presenting itself to be swallowed by zanu. How can MDC join up with a party that's not yet formed? Doesn't that sound awkward guys? Zanu is busy cooking something, mai mujuru is zanu 100%. Wake up!!!!

misty - 9 October 2015

CLEMENT YOU ARE A SELLOUT SON OF A BIRTCH

sancho - 9 October 2015

Working together and merging is totally different .Morgan is not merging mdc t and pple first but he is simply working together with these guys to remove satan from power just as zapu and zanu did during the war they working toigether as different parties . So pple must be careful here CIOs can twist every thing to confuse you in order to pliz Mugabe but the good thing is zimbabweans are not idiots and they know all cio TRICKS .Chesaaampaamaa!!!!!!!!!!!

Diibulaanyika - 9 October 2015

tsvangirai ngaambo mira asiire chigaro kune mumwe. the problem is that he has become a handiende type. that is what has affected our country having one leader for nearly 4 decades. tsvangirai is now approaching two decades as leader of the mdc despite his promise in 1999 that he wouldn't go beyond 2014 at the expiry of the third term. now he is beyond his initial mandate through manipulating the constitution. tsvingirai should be rested machinja. let's give people like chamisa the task to move the party forward. we cannot fix our trust on one person.

zvirozviyedzwa - 9 October 2015

@Diibulaanyika.....I hear you bro and I am sure it would be a noble thing for everyone else to work together to remove the stumbling block but on the other hand you have a mai mujuru who had to be booted out from zanu and who's all of a sudden an angel? To me something is fishy there!! I'm saying Tsvang should be careful!! I would rather MDC Tsvang contest standing alone, MDC underestimates the support they have. Time is moving, we are almost in 2016 so we only have just over 2 years to sort out the problems that we had in 2013 elections and I am PRETTY SURE none of those problems will be rectified because everyone is busy talking about mai mujuru. No opposition party will win an election in zim unless the electoral reforms are made. Zanu is busy destructing attention from the important issues of electoral reforms by creating this mai mujuru drama which will end just before the election and mai mujuru will rejoin zanu and everyone will be stunned.

misty - 9 October 2015

Zimbos everywhere you go on this lovely planet in which Zim as a country fall in seems to be politicians. Hence we have a political crisis in Zim cz everyone wants to lead a kangaroo party of his/her own. My advice to you is that....the only formidable movement that can challenge ZANU PF and Gushungo is the coalition of Amai Joyce and Morgiza...otherwise, the rest should forget and smile. The Biti movement and Dr Makoni should join henceforth cz they seem to be better politicians so far. These should join hands and form a coalition in order to topple ZANU PF and Gushungo. I bet, with the confusion and factions in the ruling party, this movement will win election come 2018. Instead, don't fight over power.....Morgan to be the President and Amai Joyce the Prime Minister...not the Vice President....vakambodja kare please. Joyce should just come in for the sake of challenging and showing Uncle Bob and ZANU PF that she still have power but not to rule us. Morgan should be in charge as the President and Joyce as a Prime Minister and later when things improves, she just retire peacefully at her farm.........Please this should be the future of Zim not the infighting within the new coalition . Joyce show them kuti you have Zim at heart not to be greed. I salute cdes and friends.

Clemence Tashaya - 9 October 2015

The time is over for zanu pf moles(the Chaibvus) in MDC like Chamisa, remember Mutasa was once the minister of moles (state security) he knows all of you, so your schemming tactics will not work anymore and also remember the Gamatox still have access to the CIO, so they are equaly updated of all the scheming that is taking place, this is the lement that has been lacking in opposition for all along, Gamatox is the biggest asset to the opposition.

samanyika - 9 October 2015

The likelihood alliance of Joyce Teurai Ropa Nhongo Mujuru and Morgan Richard ''Save'' Tsvangirai will be a milestone in the political chapter since post independence era. The combination of these two political heavyweights will bring the much needed revival of our economy and restoration of investment confidence. The country has been rocked with lot of uncertainity and the future is very bleak with Mugabe who will be turning 92 years on the 21st of February 2016. The country is grounded and we need new charter to restore our pride.

Isaya Ndawana - 9 October 2015

@Misty what do you say of Nkomo who had to work with gukurahundis who even shot and killed his body guard when they failed to locate him . He merged his party with zanu for reasons of peace which is different from this issue of Mujuru and Morgan who are not merging at all but all are saying Mugabe is evil and must be removed and that means they can work together and remove ZANU as different political parties with common goal and enemy simple as that .If any one fails to understand simple pact like that one then they must have been totally confused by CIO lies .

Diibulaanyika - 9 October 2015

Morgan, Morgan you never learn even after being burnt so many times you are still listening to the last man you speak to? Mujuru is a poisoned chalice. When the time is right, Mugabe or Zanu will take back Mujuru and her bedfellows but you will be caught pants down and wrong footed again. Ye we are the most educated people in Africa ye what what. Come on what education if you cant even join the dots that have been highlighted in bold colour for you? Pinning your hope on zanu or morgan is a lost cause.

Galore 123 - 9 October 2015

@Diibulaanyika.....I appreciate you point of view and really it's a noble one but I think mai mujuru is still zanu, it's like MDC is working together with zanu to try and remove zanu, it won't work. I agree with Galore that Tsvang has to be very careful when dealing with the evil turned angel. If mai mujuru is for real she must join MDC.

misty - 9 October 2015

Pliz leave Morgan alone he did not get into politics yesterday.CIO s are running sacred gammatox are happy kwambili.

Gammatox - 9 October 2015

brend atrice - 9 October 2015

I think the current scenario regarding Mujuru and company is very much different in a lot of ways from the one in 1987 Zapu /Zanu. The decision that Mqabuko "umdala wethu" took was simply the best. He put the interest of the country and its people first. If one takes into account that he was a leader of an organisation with a military wing capable of shooting a plane. The country could have easily gone Renamo/Frelimo , Unita/MPLA route. Mujuru and Company they freed this country and ruled it for 34years straight the results are there for all to see. How many times do they want to free this country and from who? All my small achievements that I made as a result of Nkomo's decision to make the country safe and stable was ruined, stolen and shattered by Mujuru and her other partners in crime. Why did mujuru not produce that Blue print in 2004 ? she was Vp for christ sake. Mujuru and company must bring their Zanu pf regalia and burn/tear them at Harvest house. Mutasa must remove and leave his shoes at the door and get their MDC cards. I dont know why Morgan entertains and used by these gammatox. Zanu pf seeds are dying as such they must be left to die .Why watering them.

X-MAN IV - 9 October 2015

@X-MAN IV........well put, I think most people are being emotional about this scenario and therefore have sympathy for mai mujuru because of the "persecution" or "abuse" by mugabe but I think this is the time to be thinking critically as it is a crucial moment. Once Tsvang joins with mujuru that's the end of MDC and the end of opposition politics in Zim.

misty - 10 October 2015

So Morgan must fight Mujuru and Mugabe at the same time? That is stupid thinking no one said is joining the other but that they must aim their guns towards their one enemy from different angles so what is wrong about that . In Kenya it took them many years to remove Arap Moi bcoz of this mentality of not wanting to work together as opposition parties . Working together and merging does not mean the same thing and no one here said they are joining the other and if some does not understand that then must seek for some help so that they do not move on confused

Diibulaanyika - 10 October 2015

Zimbabwe will be liberated by God only that is when Mugabe dies.He is now getting frail ,let nature take its course, We have failed to remove Mugabe Democratically because votting does not work in ZIMBABWE ,Mugabe will simply Rigg He is devilishly Powerfull . I HAVE A FEW WORDS TO YOU ROBERT "UCHAFA CHETE,U CHAISIYA ZIMBABWE UCHIIDA""

Truth be told - 11 October 2015

we need Pf WITHOUT Zanu is no sense
