Mighty Warriors skipper bullish

HARARE - Mighty Warriors captain Felistas Muzongondi believes Cameroon are not invincible and could easily fall in this afternoon’s 2016 Rio Olympic final qualifier at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé.

The Mighty Warriors finally left the country yesterday morning for the tie against the West Africans after newly-appointed minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane mobilised resources to enable the team to travel.

The team’s trip was hanging in the balance after Zifa had once again failed to raise the resources in time before minister chipped in at the last minute.

And it appears a mammoth task for the Mighty Warriors against a Cameroon side that lost to Ghana in the finals at recently African Games.

But Muzongondi is, however, not reading much into that.  The match starts at 5:30pm Zimbabwe time.

“As a team, we hope to achieve what we want but obviously, we are going there to give our best. We have been together for almost a week but we are expecting the best of game,” Muzondondi told the Daily News before the team’s departure.

“From the look of things, the team has been looking sharp in training and it’s so encouraging. We have worked hard so are we are now looking forward to the game.

“Of course, they are a good team but it does not mean they are invincible. We can still go there and register a positive result. We just need to stay focused and believe in ourselves that we can win. The attitude needs to be right.”

The game will be the first new senior women’s national team coach Shadreck Mlauzi since replacing Rosemary Mugadza.

The winner of the match will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics finals year as one of Africa’s two representatives at the showpiece.

The reverse fixture is scheduled for Harare in two weeks’ time.
