Konshens finally dates Zim

HARARE - Jamaican music star Konshens, whose scheduled tour of Zimbabwe last year was cancelled  due to the Ebola outbreak that ravaged parts of Africa, will finally perform in the country next month.

Konshens will headline the Castle Lager Summer Celebration set for Old Georgians Sports Club on October 10.

The gig, meant to celebrate 120 years of the Castle Lager brand, will also feature award-winning South African band Beatenberg which dazzled the audience at this year’s Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa).

The Castle Lager Summer Celebration, being held in conjunction with Musica 2015 co-organised by the Italian Embassy, will also include celebrated Mozambican saxophonist and composer Ivan Mazuze, Marco Maggiore from Italy and DJ Dino Moran from South Africa.

Zimbabwe will be represented at the high-profile event by Zimdancehall star Winky D, mbira princess Hope Masike and local Afro-rock fusion band Evicted.

Though the Castle Lager Summer Celebration gig is awash with top class performers, there is no doubt that Konshens will hog the limelight given the way the Jamaican star’s tour of Zimbabwe last year was cancelled at the eleventh hour at the instigation of the Jamaican government that barred its artistes from performing in then Ebola-hit Africa.

Born Garfield Delano Spence, Konshens  attained global attention thanks to hits such as  Winner, Rasta Impostor, This Means Money, Good Girl Gone Bad, Gal Dem A Talk, Realest Song, Represent, Do Sumn , Forward and  Gal a bubble.

The Jamaican artiste, who performed in Kampala, Uganda last week alongside compatriot Busy Signal at an event called Dance with the Champions, is currently in New York.

He will come to Zimbabwe in the midst of a two-month tour of Europe scheduled to start later this month.

Before coming to Zimbabwe, Konshens and members of his SubKonshus camp are scheduled to perform on club dates in Germany, The Netherlands, Spain and Austria alongside his brother, deejay Delus, and singer Darrio who will be the accompanying acts.

The Jamaican star, who cancelled dates in Europe last year due to exhaustion, recently told the Jamaica Observer that he is looking forward to the upcoming shows in Europe.

“This Europe run is gonna be extra special, as I got sick last year and had to cancel like seven shows. It’s make-up time,” he said.

“I intentionally structured my schedule to be in Jamaica this summer and make sure I got to be a part of all the summer events.”

DELTA BEVERAGES yakubhowa they think WINKY D is the only good artist in Zimdancehall genre .They should consider other fire brands artists like Sir Calaz and Killer T.Everytime we watch Winky ,we need a change please. Not saying Winky is not good we just need that change to promote diversity and reward other equally good artist. It seems like corruption in form of kickbacks is happening in the Public relations Department of DELTA BEVERAGES
