Mbare group wins Chibuku provincials

HARARE - Mbare-based sungura musical group Adequate Sounds secured a place to compete in the annual Chibuku Road to Fame finals to be held in Harare next month following their victory at provincial competitions held in Chitungwiza on Saturday.

Delta Beverages in conjunction with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe — the organisers of the annual Chibuku Road to Fame — hosted Harare province competitions in Unit L Shopping Centre in Seke, Chitungwiza where 10 groups competed for the title.

Adequate Sounds won $1 000 while the group Naka Sugar were placed on the second position and walked away with $500. Tambarimba group took third position and won $300.

The Adequate Sounds front man was over the moon following the victory.

“I am now focusing on the Chibuku Road to Fame finals and I do not want to disappoint,” said the 23-year-old musician.

Ngwazi is a young brother to Mark of Zvandigumbura song who won the last year Chibuku Road to Fame Harare finals held in Warren Park; however he failed to make it at the national competition.

Apart from pocketing $1 000 on the event Adequate Sounds got a chance to share the stage with veteran sungura artiste Nicholas Zakaria of Khiama Boys who graced the occasion.

This year’s finals will be held at the Glamis Arena in Harare on September 26.

Last year the national finals was won by Mashonaland West province’s Attack Jazz Band while The Way Band were the champions in 2013.
