AFM marks 100 years

HARARE - An estimated 100 000 people will converge at Rufaro High School, Masvingo Province, for the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe centenary celebrations which come at a time when the church is expanding into Dubai and Canada.

The church president Reverend Aspher Madziyire said the church’s various branches are expected at the centenary celebrations in Masvingo starting on Thursday with a conference.

To kick-start the celebrations, AFM held a colourful march in Harare at the weekend where Madziyire laid the church’s expansion plans internationally.

Madziyire said as a mission, the aim of the church is to spread the Word of God to corners of the world.

“We have branches in the United Kingdom, Australia, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa and other places but even when these people decide to return to Zimbabwe, the church will not die as they will have infiltrated the societies there.” He said with all the hardships that Zimbabweans are facing, they should be optimistic of a bright future in Christ.

“All these people are here because of their faith. If we all continue on that path, we will be blessed. The Word of God says those that stood in faith with Him, so I shall remember them. All churches in Zimbabwe should just remain steadfast in their beliefs,” he said.

The celebrations, which are being held under the theme “Celebrating 100 Years of Being Established on a Solid Foundation”, will be graced by AFM International president Frank Chikane.

Though celebrating 100 years of ministry in Zimbabwe, AFM was initially founded in 1908, in South Africa by John G. Lake and his companion Thomas Hezmalhalch.

Even for a respectable church like AFM, claiming that 100 000 people can fir at Rufaro campsite in Chatsworth, is stretching the truth a bit. I've been there and I tell you, its not possible.

Baba its true you have mentioned AFM in UK but its now just a name most Branches have closed down. If you look at AFM South Africa then move on to Zimbabwe you will notice the difference. I do think there are so many power hungry Pastors in AFM you need to use the Spiritual Wisdom to see how the Church can now move forward. Its just a shame to see how people of God loved AFM abroad and now they do not even want to hear about the name anymore. I would urge you yourself and the AFM President Frank Chikane to start visiting all Foreign Branches and try to map out a new Strategy that will revive the Church. We need Old Pastors who started AFM in hard times to be given an opportunity of spreading the Old Gospel which was full of the Spirit of GOd to share Platforms and pass the barton to youngsters who also have Spiritual Gifts not those who are only preaching Gospel of Prosperity pocketing pounds and forgeting that they are there to be looking after flocks of God. I am so pained with what we are seeing today,at times we ask is this the way how we should worship God. Save AFM IN God's Name Amen

Even the figure 100 000 is understated. The actual figure should be more than three hundred thousand 300 000 to say the truth. Praise be to the Lord Jesus the King of Kings , Almighty , Hallelujah.

100,000 can not be accomodated at Rufaro. There is no adequate water, not enough shade, no toilet bathroom facilities. Do not be carried away with numbers as an indication of the power of God. AFM needs to re visit its purpose. It is no longer to bring many to Christ but to get many to enrich pastors.
