Williams happy to be in Zim

HARARE - The International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (IBFF) Africa president Arnie Williams has commended Zimbabwe’s hospitality after jetting into Harare yesterday.

Williams arrived in the country yesterday morning well in advance of the registration exercise for today’s IBFF Zimbabwe Classic contest scheduled for the Reps Theatre in the evening.

The pre-judge ceremony kicks off at 9am this morning at the same venue.

The inaugural event comes courtesy of Zimbabwe IBFF ambassador Victor Hungwe, who is now a Pro Card holder with the federation.

Hungwe won his division in South Africa in April to be accorded with the Pro Card status having also triumphed in Naples, Italy in a World competition two years ago.

“I’m sitting here having my roasted chicken, rice and stone ginger drink and guess what, I have met the most friendliest people in the whole of Africa and not even in South Africa where I come from do you get to meet people who are so friendly than the people of Zimbabwe,” Williams told the Daily News yesterday.

“I’m pleased to be here, Victor is my friend and I have known him since five or six years ago and he’s been an absolute gentleman.

“We are already mapping the way forward after this show; we would like to have three shows next year; an all-ladies show, IBFF Zimbabwe Classic and a developmental one for the novices. My first impression of Zimbabwe bodybuilding so far is that I think the ladies have done so well in this male-dominated industry and we are happy to give them the platform.”
