Triangle dump Tsholotsho out of Chibuku Super Cup

TRIANGLE - A ten-man Triangle dumped a determined Tsholotsho out of the Chibuku Super Cup first round on penalties after the two teams were deadlocked in regulation time yesterday.

Tsholotsho failed to take full advantage of the one-man advantage after the home side’s defender Jimmy Tigere was sent off in the 18th minute.

This left the visitors’ coach Lizwe Sweswe disappointed when they lost out in the penaltiy shootout.

“We played well but sadly we missed our penalties,” he said.

Triangle coach Kelvin Kaindu said: “It’s, however, good that we won from penalties. It’s still a good win for us, you can see our opponents wanted to win but we played almost 70 minutes with a man down.”

Tsholotsho scored first through Lynoth Chikuhwa, who converted from the penalty spot in the 18th minute.

The visitors, however, could not hang on to the lead conceding an own goal in the 27th minute after Calvin Moyo beat his own keeper trying to  block Nelson Melson’s cross from the left.

After the break, the home side took the lead when Hillary Bakacheza pounced on a rebound after Nickel Marichi had saved Courage Denius’ effort.

Tsholotsho equalised shortly when Triangle goalkeeper Ashley Reyners misjudged a long ball from Chikuhwa and the match had to be decided by a penalty shootout.
