Chitiyo boost for DeMbare

HARARE - Dynamos have received a major boost ahead of their Chibuku Super Cup first round clash against Whawha with the return to full fitness of star midfielder Ronald Chitiyo.

DeMbare hosts the Zimbabwe Prison Correctional Services side at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday with new coach Tonderai Ndiraya taking charge of his first competitive match.

In recent matches, DeMbare lacked quality, especially in midfield where they missed Chitiyo, who was sidelined by an ankle injury.

“I’m happy to announce that Elisha Muroyiwa and Chitiyo are now back,” Ndiraya told reporters yesterday during a handover ceremony of a football kit to Dzivaresekwa High 1 School by the club’s principal sponsors, BancABC.

“The players need to improve, particularly those who play in the midfielder so that they can create chances for the strikers to score.

“We are happy with the coming back of Chitiyo who can create chances and score as well. I think it’s an added advantage to the team.

“I’m sure the strikers are very happy because Chitiyo is a player who will always create an assist.”

DeMbare also welcome back defender Sydney Linyama who was injured during the ZNA Charities Cup final defeat to Highlanders last weekend.

The Glamour Boys will, however, have to do without midfielder Masimba Mambare who had an injury in Sunday’s match.

Ndiraya, however, said they are not going to underrate Whawha, who are currently struggling in the relegation zone in the league.

“I think it’s an important match for everyone who is associated with Dynamos football club. We are very much focused. We are working hard so that we get a good result,” he said.

“It’s a cup match, we can’t afford to relax. We have put aside the defeat to Highlanders and we are focusing ahead, starting with the game against Whawha.

“I think we are going to put a better show than what we did last weekend. On a personal level, I would not want to lose any match, but this is football anything can happen and so happened that we lost to Highlanders in another Cup match on Sunday.

“For now, I’m really focused I want to get a positive result. The defeat to Highlanders was a bad result not for me only but for the whole club and supporters.

“This is a cup match, the competition will be very tough as you know they will be a winner at the end of the day, we know what we expected from us.”

Ndiraya added: “Whawha is a good team they have a good squad and a good coach Lloyd Mutasa. My understanding is that Mutasa hasn’t lost to Dynamos as a coach so we will be looking to break that jinx.”
