Gaddafi's son sentenced to death

TRIPOLI - A court in Libya has sentenced Col Muammar Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam, and eight others to death over war crimes linked to the 2011 revolution.

More than 30 close associates of the deposed leader were on trial, accused of suppressing protests during the uprising.

Saif al-Islam was not present in court and gave evidence via video link.

He is being held by a former rebel group from the town of Zintan that refuses to hand him over.

Former head of intelligence for the Gaddafi regime, Abdullah al-Senussi, is among those also facing the death penalty, as is former PM Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi.

Saif al-Islam is also wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Prosecutors say that he was part of his father's plans to "quell, by all means, the civilian demonstrations against the Gaddafi regime".

One would expect such sentence but I doubt whether the trial was fair and just bearing in mind that he acted in defence of his father something that anyone sane would naturally do. I do not think he could have folded his hands watching his father being mauled by he so called revolutionaries. Were revolutionaries holding Bibles or Quaran when they marching towards Bagdad. NO. They were holding guns to kill Gaddafi and he responded by guns as well. Ngavamuuraye zvavo asi ivo vachatongwawo naMwari.

Its by human nature to protect your parents even if they are wrong. You can't disown your parents just because they are poor or blind, never. In times of sorrow, happiness I will stand by them. So the man I don't see him being wrong.

I am also disappointed true. They should just leave him for the sake of forgiveness. No one is perfect.

I am mostly certain the Libyan court did its home work right to arrive at such verdict and applied the proper sentence. Gaddafi Jnr and 30 others are facing War crimes and Crimes against humanity. Its a definitely Yes the charges were extending for a period of plus twenty years or the entire Gaddaffi era. Gaddafi was the aggressor and for anyone to raise self defence or defence of the 3rd party while helping the aggressor its ill advised because in the eyes of the courts you become an accomplice. Gaddafi and his regime killed people with impunity for years without remorse and they did not forgive those who did not agree with their policies. The rebel group must hand over his son so that justice is carried out.Gaddafi and his associates do not qualify under the human category term "no one is perfect" because they exceeded the limits.
