Davido heading to Zim

HARARE - Award-winning Nigerian singer, Davido is heading to Zimbabwe for a show scheduled for August 29 at Belgravia Sports Club in Harare.

A welcome party for the star is set for August 28.

Speaking at a press conference held in the capital yesterday, DJ and dancehall promoter Godfather Templeman, confirmed Davido’s show.

“It is the people who have been asking for Davido to come; hence we are giving them what they want.”

There, however, has not been any announcement of local supporting artistes.

“Of the local artistes to perform, we will have voting platforms on the social media and radio. Basically, we want to give people what they want,” said Templeman.

The showcase is being organised by Chipaz Promotions and Jacaranda Culture and Media.

“His playlist will be voted for as well on the same platforms so that he will play songs that people can relate to.  It won’t make sense if he plays songs that people don’t know. He will perform for the average one-and-half to two hours which is the international standard,” he said.

The tickets will be selling at $10, $15, $20, $30 and $50 and they will go on sale on August 1.

Davido is best known in Zimbabwe for the songs Skelewu, Gobe, Aye and many others.

He recently won Best Male at the MTV Africa Music Awards (Mama), for the second time in a row.

I hope the taxpayers are not footing the bill.
