India arrive for Zim series

HARARE – The Indian cricket team arrived in the country yesterday evening with experienced off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh declaring that it “will be a good series.”

Zimbabwe will host India in three One Day Internationals and two Twenty20 encounters beginning this Friday at Harare Sports Club.

“I’m happy to be in Zimbabwe,” Singh told the Daily News yesterday. “This is not my first time to be here, I have been here before and looking forward to the series, I’m sure it will be a good series.”

Ajinkya Rahane, India’s stand-in captain led the 14-man limited overs squad on arrival at the Harare International Airport yesterday.

Also present were local cricket fans including those from the Indian community, who braved the chilli-evening to see their cricketing heroes touchdown in Harare.

Among them was 14-year-old St George’s College student, Krutarth Sha, who tipped Zimbabwe to win the series.

“It’s been a long wait but it was worth it,” Sha said. “I’m really excited to see the Indian players, the team looks quite inexperienced than the Zimbabwean team and I should think that Zimbabwe will win the series.

“Zimbabwe can do better; we have a very good and experienced coach, Dav Whatmore and what more would any team want?”
