Mangwiro criticises Lafarge pitch

HARARE - Harare City coach Taurai Mangwiro slammed the state of the turf at Lafarge Stadium after his team was held to a goalless draw by Flame Lilly in a Castle Lager Premiership match yesterday.

With the draw the Sunshine Boys remain in eighth place on the log with 22 points while Flame Lilly also remain second from the bottom with 12 points.

“It was a very difficult match for us, the pitch was virtually unplayable,” Mangwiro said after the match.

“We heard about this pitch, we had expected them to play the way they did. I think we did fairly well in all departments but I think a draw was the fairest result.

“I must be frank, we were hoping to collect maximum points today.”

The former CAPS United coach bemoaned his team’s many draws in the first half of the season.

“Let’s hope we are going to have  better results in the second half of the season. I feel we have given away too many draws in the first half of the season; today was our seventh,” he said.

“I wouldn’t want to complain too much because we have some work that is in progress. In the first half we were still getting to know each other as a team and I hope for better performances in the second half of the season.”

Flame Lilly coach Backlyfield Chivenga was happy with the point.

“It was a balanced affair with a bit of luck we could have won this match but I think a draw is the fairest result,” he said.

“I am happy to collect a point and we hope to start winning in our next league matches.

“I think what we are doing at training is being implemented by my players but we only have to improve on our scoring.

“As a new coach I am trying to come up with new system based on the players that I have at my disposal.”
