Ngezi open 9-point lead

HARARE - Zifa Northern Region Division One League pacesetters Ngezi Platinum have opened a nine-point gap at the summit after beating visiting Seven Flames 3-0 over the weekend.

Black Rhinos, who were on second place before weekend games, fell further behind after suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Mushowani and are now 11 points behind log leaders.

ZRP FC, who beat Herentals 3-1, are now on second position and trail Ngezi by nine points.

Clifton “Somalia” Kadurira’s charges now lead the log standing with 34 points while ZRP FC are sitting on 25 points.

Ngezi Platinum are yet to lose a match thus far after 14 rounds of action winning ten times and drawing four but Kadurira is not getting carried away.

“We just need to keep our feet on the ground we want to continue winning our matches,” Kadurira told the Daily News yesterday.

“We just want to continue play our normal game for the title it is still too early, we need to remain focused and avoid being carried away with this fine performance.

“We have many games to play before the end of the season but for my team I am happy with their performance, everyone is hungry for success.”

Former Premiership side Gunners slid to fourth position on the log standings after playing to a one-all draw against DC Academy.

The 2009 Zimbabwean champions, who were tipped as one of the favourites to win the title before the season began, have been blowing hot and cold.

Gunners are now on 24 points and trail behind third-placed Black Rhinos on goal difference.

Perennial campaigners DStv Rangers continued with their mini-revival after beating Zatex 4-2 to record their second consecutive win following their 4-0 victory over Blue Jets the previous weekend.

With the win, Newton 'Taundi' Chitewe’s charges are now in fifth place with 22 points and trail Ngezi Platinum by 12 points.
