Forget Fifa scandal, MSN are the best there is

JOHANNESBURG - One would have been tempted to continue debating the American-orchestrated Fifa corruption saga which I maintain is a USA and European conspiracy aimed at the two blocks dominating the global game.

As the saga (Fifa scandal) rages on with no solution anywhere in sight, one would have been tempted to be sucked into the matter as long as it drags on but the sport of football is not about individuals.

It is about the game itself in the field of play; which brings me to an amazing game which the entire globe witnessed when Barcelona beat Italian giants Juventus 3-1 to claim their fifth European Champions League title at a packed Berlin’s Olympic Stadium.

While I wanted the Turin underdogs to cause an upset, I was left with the little choice at the end of the day apart from cheering and admiring the attacking prowess of Barca and their triumvirate of Messi, Suarez and Neymar now known as Barcelona’s devastating attacking trident.

With 122 goals scored by Messi, Suarez and Neymar this season, the trio has been hailed across the globe as the most effective attacking threesome in Spanish football history if not in the entire world.

But how have Messi, Suarez and Neymar proved to be such a lethal trident?  Experts will tell you it's from years of dedication, training, indefatigable attitude and out and out genius.

As for Suarez, this was an incredible turnaround from a season where he was almost lost into the wilderness following his famous biting of Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup last year in Brazil.

He was immediately sent home and was banned for a long period, meaning he missed most of the season until midway through.

But once he hit the right notes, he was one of the most inspirational players in the treble winning Barca where pundits are already arguing this might be the best Barcelona side ever.

As for Messi, his role within the team is colossal and once again showed he will be compared in the same breath as one of the game’s greatest star in living history.

During Saturday’s final, the three showed why this Barca side will dominate the global club game for some foreseeable future.

Having scored first, Juve who gave a surprisingly gave an unbelievable response especially midway through the second half in which they momentarily threatened to undo the global order by taking the game to the Spanish side, felt the might of the threesome.

With the Italians giants buoyed by the equaliser and pouring forward for the winning goal, the left space at the back on which Messi seized the opportunity by waltzing his way past the opponents, unleashed a thunderbolt which was partially saved by Buffon. And Suarez was on hand to plant the rebound into the top left hand corner.

Neymar then sealed a memorable night with the last kick of the game as the best attacking trio left the watching audience bemused.

So where to now for MSN? Will there be any team which can stop this powerful Barca side?

With Messi, Suarez and Neymar spearheading a new-look Barcelona, this season’s treble may prove to be only the beginning of a new era of dominance.
