Terzi hopeful of Grand Challenge honours

HARARE - With four runners in Saturday’s OK Grand Challenge Grande2 race at Borrowdale Race Park, Gokhan Terzi is hoping for a good outing for his stable.

Super Trouper, Merhaba, Rock The Country and Got A Hold On Me will be representing Terzi’s yard in the big race with a purse of $40 000 and ran over 1 800m.

“It obviously a tough race to win the OK Grand Challenge. During the Castle Tankard we ran fourth with Rock The Country. All my horse are fit and hopefully they finish the race on Saturday,” he said.

“It’s going to be pretty difficult to beat Yer-maan and Lucky Sam this Saturday; they are the two top rated horses for this race.

“However, I do have new horse, Merhaba; I don’t know how good he is yet. Merhaba is the champion three-year- old gelding from our stable at the moment.”

Apprentice jockey Wes Marwing will be teaming up with Merhaba, who will enter the race with a rating of 88 and a weight of 52kg.

The Mullins Bay gelding was handed a draw of 5 with odd makers giving it a chance of 8/1 to win Saturday’s main race.

Terzi believes his best shot of winning the race is with Rock The Country.

“Rock The Country is my best horse to win this race. Obviously after finishing fourth at the Tankard we are looking to improve,” he said.

“This time JP van der Merwe will be ridding the horse for the first time and I don’t there will be any problems.

“I’ve teamed up with JP many times. He has ridden a lot of winners for me in the past and I don’t think he will have any problems. Rock the Country is also an easy horse to ride.”

Fourteen horses will saddle up for Saturday’s main race with Yer-maan, Lucky Sam and Warcraft starting as favourites.

Yer-maan won the Castle Tankard after teaming up with jockey Quinton Riddle last month.
