Kadurira remains modest

HARARE - Ngezi Platinum coach Clifton “Somalia” Kadurira refused to accept his side as favourites to win the Zifa Northern Region Division One championship despite their perfect start to the 2015 season.

The platinum miners are currently top of the log standings with 23 points, four ahead of second placed Black Rhinos.

Kadurira’s charges are yet to lose a match thus far after nine rounds of action winning seven times and drawing two.

The Ngezi-based side have so far scored 22 times while conceding four and at the weekend they stayed on course with a 2-1 victory over Herentals at the National Sports Stadium.

But despite that fine run, Kadurira remains modest and believes concentration will be key to their promotion quest.

“It is still very early to talk about the championship, we need to remain focused and avoid getting carried away with these fine performance,” he Kadurira.

“We might be leading for now but we haven’t finished the race as yet. Competition is tough and we just need to stay focused.

“We are geared to compete at the highest level but we have to do one thing at a time.

“We have many games to play before the end of the season but for my team, I’m happy that combinations are now coming.”

The former Blackpool defender is still concerned with the challenge posed by the chasing pack as the season heads towards the halfway mark.

“We don’t want to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure. For now I think we are still in the right direction in as far as our targets are concerned.

“The competition is interesting in Northern Region Division One, at this stage no one can predict the champions as for us we are we will continue fighting till the last day of the season.”

Ngezi Platinum have become a compact unit and at the beginning of the season they acquired several former Premiership players whom they blended with young players.

Some of the players, who are in their ranks, include veteran former Triangle and Blue Rangers player Daniel Kamunhenga, former Harare City players Nomore John and Edgar Tapera.
