Harare City drop points again

HARARE - Harare City coach Taurai Mangwiro was disappointed after his side allowed Hwange’s Newman Sianchali to score a stoppage time equaliser here yesterday that dashed their chances of moving into the top four.

With City preparing to celebrate only their fourth win in 10 matches after Honey Chimutimunzeve had scored in the 72nd minute, Sianchali scored with a wonderful half volley from the edge f the box in the fifth minute of added time.

“For the second consecutive game we couldn’t cross the finish line and it’s so sad to drop two precious points at home,” said Mangwiro.

“I thought we had responded well after what I thought was the worst 45 minutes that I’ve seen from my team for a very long time.

“At a time we thought we were going to get all three points we couldn’t hold on. It’s very sad that we continue to fail to get the second goal to give us the much needed cushion.”

City had chances to put this game to bad but their forwards proved wasteful in front of goal.

William Manondo should have opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after some good work by Tino Kadewere and Munyaradzi Diro Nyenye on the right.

The former FC platinum forward produce a miss of the season contender when he skied his effort from five yards out.

After scoring the opener with only his second touch after coming in for Manondo in the 72nd minute, Chimutimunzeve wasted another good chance.

The former CAPS United striker was teed-up by Kadewere but crashed his shot against the cross bar with goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda to beat.

Hwange coach Nation Dube said: “This is a relief because we can now go back to the drawing board. I’m glad that our fighting spirit paid off.”
