Mudondo collaborates with Chabvonga

HARARE - Rasta-Kwasa musician Dino Mudondo has resurfaced with a ‘social marketing’ song he collaborated on with old friend and Chimurenga artiste Jairos Chabvonga.

The song is about the Ebola virus.

“I have been putting my house in order hence keeping a low profile in showbiz. I have discovered a winning formula therefore fans should expect more from me,” he said.

Mudondo and Chabvonga’s combination is set to go a long way considering the two musicians’ friendship which can be traced back to their primary school days.

“We have lined up a number of songs which we have collaborated on.

“Africa is plagued with many challenges including HIV/Aids, Ebola, child labour and cancer among others hence we have found it worthy to tackle them musically as citizens.

“The move to spread social marketing messages was not inspired by love of money but because of the burning patriotism in us,” said Mudondo known for hits such as Jatropha, Ndichakumirira (I Will Wait) Makoikoi and Makorokoto (Congratulations) among others.

Mudondo who has over 10 years’ experience in showbiz is not new to collaborations, his pronounced combination with Willom Tight real name Wilbroad Muponda has produced hits such as Bhazi (Bus) where they sang about the HIV pandemic.

Chabvonga said the project is self-funded.

“I have been moving around the continent and I have found that problems affecting Africa are almost the same.

“I was touched and decided to take the bull by the horns. I have found Dino as the perfect partner considering he has been singing about the topics before. However, the project is self-sponsored but partners are welcome,” said Chabvonga.

Apart from social marketing songs, the duo has collaborated on another track which celebrated their fathers.

“We share almost the same history; we grew up together in Chitungwiza and attended the same schools.

“Both our fathers passed away hence the song is meant to commemorate their lives,” said Chabvonga who frontlines Ngorimba Afro Fusion Band.

Mudondo has over 10 albums under his belt and some of them include Makorokoto, Dino, Rasta-Kwasa, Nganga and Sugar Mutapi recorded in Botswana, Wining and Dining, Esprando and Zuva Guru among others while Chabvonga is working on his second album.
