Malajila backs Chiefs

JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cuthbert Malajila concedes Kaizer Chiefs could break the Brazilians' points record this season.Sundowns set the mark of 65 points last term – the highest since the PSL became a 16-team league at the start of 2002/03 – as they powered their way to their sixth League title.

Chiefs, who can claim title honours with a victory over Polokwane City tonight, currently have 60 points with four games left.

“Chiefs have a chance to break the record. We wanted to achieve more than 65 points this season,” Malajila says.

“We wanted to improve from last season to get more than 65 points, but we are improving each an every year and maybe next season it will be something else.

“But Chiefs have a chance to go over 65 points and we wanted to achieve that as well but it is not possible anymore and Chiefs can do it now.”

Meanwhile, Malajila says second-placed Downs must reassert their worth against Platinum Stars on Wednesday following their 5-0 thumping by Bloemfontein Celtic on the weekend.

“We have to regroup and come back strong in our next game against Platinum Stars,” says Malajila, who has scored 10 League goals and provided as many assists this season. – KickOff
