SA arrests over xenophobic attacks

DURBAN - South African police have arrested 17 people and opened murder cases after attacks on foreign nationals in Durban.

The violence comes in the wake of alleged comments by the Zulu king telling migrants to go home - although the he says he was mistranslated.

But Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has called on traditional leaders to stop making remarks that "could result in a loss of life".

At least 62 people died in xenophobic attacks that swept the country in 2008.

Following the alleged comments by King Goodwill Zwelithini at the end of March, 250 people have been attacked, mostly from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and foreign-owned shops have been looted in the port city of Durban.

More than 1,000 mainly African migrants have fled their homes, some going to police stations and other are being housed in tents on a sports field.

You are wrong man. things don't work like that in a globalised world. simply asking to go and killing them if they don't go is surely is against spirit of neighbourliness. You seem to forget that there are south africans living and working outside south africa.Imagine, we had a huge influx of south africans during your dark years. if we had chased u away and killed for not leaving, what would have happened to u. i remember Zanu PF head office, in Manica Road was bombed because Zimbabwe was assisting you guys and was hosting some ANC leaders. And the saddest think is you guys seem to think a foreigner is anyone black and non-south african.if he is white or Asian, you don't mind of hypocrisy and colonial mentality. this is really bad for south africa and africa as whole when brothers kill each other like chicken.where is the African unity and pan-africanism? what do we do with our brothers and sisters who married south africans. what are u going to do to your brothers and sisters who married "foreigners?"

I never thought I will see that horrible picture of people being kicked , stink ex or burned century. That is barbaric and totally insane. During apartheid we looked after you and even sacrificed our lives for your Liberty . What is wrong with these people? I remember before elections in 1994they were killing each other Llike its was no one ' s business until Mandela had to take a bold leadership decision to stop the madness. Most of Black South Africans Africans are not even educated to earn a decent job , yet they complain about foreigners taking their jobs. I have stopped iflying SA or even visit that country. Shame on you evil people. I hope you are just a few.

South Africa you are not the only country with foreigners working in your country, be reminded too that you are rich because of cheap labor from those foreigners. This is not acceptable in this century. That is Barbaric at its highest level and this was never seen during the apartheid time.

you a misleading yoself mr man if u say South Africa is for South Africans because on day you can be a foreigner some where. imagine during arphatheid era how many SAs fled to their neighbors. so they should learn to accomodate foreigners as all we a africans .on top of that how can a leader utter such a speech other than calling for better relations with foreiners

Its only in South Africa where an illiterate person thinks a qualified Medical Doctor from another country is a reason for his Unemployment .Like Tsag said your are arguing with sign posts.

South Africans is made up of tribes that are dangerously confused and funny at the same time. They accuse and kill a vendor in the street for taking their job. As of now, only 17 suspects linked to the recent murder of foreign nationals have been arrested yet there are multitude of clear pictures and clips of people caught in the act that are circulating in the media. How competent is South African Home Affairs Ministry? Zuma sent a message of condolence for the victims of the recent earthquake but did not just say "sorry" to the relatives of those people butchered by his people. So he is trying to sound like a Mr.Nice guy outside whilst his barbarians are busy killing fellow Africans. He mentions of working towards ensuring that this xenophobic madness does not happen again for the third time. Those people responsible MUST be brought to book and serve as an example to the others. The innocent blood and material lost must be compensated. The people worked hard to get whatever they got and it cannot just be wiped away like that. Africa is for Africans and not South Africans.
