Chimbaira ditches Ncube's MDC

HARARE - Goodrich Chimbaira, the national chairman of the smaller MDC faction led by Welshman Ncube, has crossed the floor to join Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC.

Chimbaira, a former Zengeza East MP, has rejoined the party he helped form back in 1999.

The floor-crossing follows Chimbaira’s suspension from the Ncube outfit on Wednesday on allegations of misconduct.

Tsvangirai said: “We are glad that Goodrich Chimbaira, the former chairperson of the political formation led by professor Welshman Ncube, is rejoining us today. Together, we are better and stronger. We are happy that more and more members continue to come back to the party they helped found some 16 years ago.

“In politics and especially in a democratic movement, adventurism is permissible but it only takes the courage of great men and women to realise that together we are stronger, thereby making them take the bold decision to come back and work with others.

“We in the MDC appreciate the importance of working together and we welcome this son of the struggle back home.”

Chimbaira said: “As you know, I was the national chairman of the Ncube MDC but today we say no to his stupid politics of unfettered ego and unbridled ambition.

“I have made the first move today but I can assure you that thousands of patriotic sons and daughters will soon be coming back to join the MDC’s big tent.”

Last month, seven members of Ncube’s party crossed the floor to join the Dumiso Dabengwa-led Zapu, citing a bleak future.

This was preceded by the departure of national spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube who quit his position after resigning from the party.

This came barely a month after two top officials — secretary-general Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga and vice chairperson Frank Chamunorwa — stepped down from their positions.

The officials all accuse Ncube of being a dictator who wants to personalise the party.

But Joshua Mhambi, the new Ncube-led MDC spokesperson, dismissed the allegations as baseless.

Mhambi counter-accused the officials, particularly Misihairabwi-Mushonga, Dube, Chimbaira and Chamunorwa for pursuing personal interests during negotiations for a United MDC with the renewal team.

He said Chimbaira had violated the party’s constitution although he did not mention the clause.

“The real reason behind their departure is that their plot to negotiate for their own positions was exposed and now they are coming up with such flimsy allegations,” Mhambi said.

“They fabricated lies that Ncube had agreed to be vice president of the united party.”

He further accused the top officials of seeking to “create a crisis in the party by resigning en masse hoping to collapse it because they had established themselves as leaders of the coalition.

“They were groomed by the party and it still has capacity to provide even more competent people for those positions so if they choose to join other parties, it is up to them,” he said.

When you have a total unknown leaving a party, surely no harm can be expected to come to that party. I mean, the man couldn't even pull any crowds in his Shona regions; it makes no difference really!

If he can be a card carrying member and remain at that level its ok bcoz naturally he is not some one to trust anytime he can be easily confused and start to try and destroy the people 's project but if he can be confined to a mere member its fine and welcome , Now we are waiting for Ncube to come back but as a mere member then we move on under the leadership of captain Morgan the man has never done jika ma jika against his people .

Ncube would rather quit politics , not to go to that party of cowards and dictators in fact crooks who play around with povo"s support workers are regretting being in the formation of hijacked MDC
