People First rattles Zanu PF

HARARE - There is gnashing of teeth in President Robert Mugabe’s warring Zanu PF, as the party prepares to embark on more brutal purges of its senior officials and at least a dozen legislators perceived to be sympathetic to former Vice President Joice Mujuru.

Well-placed sources within the party told the Daily News yesterday that the move to expel more of its cadres had taken an urgent tone following the recent decision by disaffected party stalwarts to break ranks with Mugabe and coalesce under the banner and principles of the “original Zanu PF” that will operate as Zanu PF under the slogan, People First.

“Mashefu (party bigwigs) are rattled by the formation of Zanu People First and they are now just lashing out in anger at anyone suspected of supporting Mai Mujuru and (former Presidential Affairs minister Didymus) Mutasa. There will be plenty of blood on the floor in the next few weeks,” a senior Zanu PF official said.

He said the future of at least a dozen party Members of Parliament perceived to be aligned to Mujuru was “hanging by a thread” amid indications that they were set to be recalled soon.

“Those under attack include former provincial chairpersons who are said to be at the heart of the organisation activities of Mutasa’s Zanu People First, as well as a number of senior officials and Cabinet ministers who are said to be close to Mai Mujuru,” the official added.

Zanu PF passed controversial votes of no confidence in nine of its 10 provincial chairpersons ahead of the party’s disputed damp squib “elective” congress last December. All of them are MPs.

In Mashonaland West province, for example, the provincial political commissar Simon Solomon has since been dropped from the team campaigning for the Hurungwe West by-election on allegations of associating with expelled former provincial chairman Temba Mliswa, who is standing as an independent candidate.

“Several MPs especially from Mashonaland East province will be recalled in the next few weeks. Ray Kaukonde (Marondera Central) and Simbaneuta Mudarikwa (Uzumba) are among those targeted along with others like Callistus Gwanetsa (Chiredzi South) because they are believed to be the driving force behind the Zanu People First party’s recruitment exercise,” said an MP from Masvingo.

The acting chairperson for Mashonaland West province, Ziyambi Ziyambi, confirmed that the party’s campaign team for the June 10 Hurungwe West by-election had been changed, adding that his executive would not hesitate to fire errant party cadres and MPs from the province.

“We wanted to have people who understand the constituency, its terrain and the people in it to lead our campaign, so we roped in Godfrey Gandawa (Magunje MP) and Sarah Mahoka to lead the campaign because she is energetic and has a natural connection with female voters.

“Solomon has not been withdrawn though, but he needs these people’s help. Anyone who associates with Mliswa will surely be sacked without even going through a disciplinary hearing,” Ziyambi said.

Soon after the party’s controversial congress late last year, its provincial stalwarts held meetings under the banner of provincial coordinating committees in which they recommended the recalling of lawmakers accused of fanning factionalism.

Lickspittle State media, which now operate as Zanu PF newsletters, have over the past few days warned that the party was prepared to remove from its ranks any officials with suspected links to Mujuru “to ensure it forges ahead with singularity of mind and spirit”.

Mujuru was expelled from the party last Thursday for what the Sunday Mail said was “leading a cabal that attempted to unseat President Mugabe at both party and State level, and exploring the possibility of assassinating him if other strategies failed”.

The lapdog weekly also said its “sources” had revealed that the party’s politburo, had “resolved to come down hard on party members who associate with Dr Mujuru”.

“The politburo said it is ready to take hard decisions and to settle any remaining matters from Dr Mujuru’s sympathisers comprehensively. The party is prepared to expel even more MPs who are associated with her; we are even prepared to have more by-elections,” it quoted a source saying.

Another one of its sources said associating with Mujuru by Zanu PF officials “would not be looked upon kindly seeing as she had been expelled from the party after being found guilty of very serious charges”.

“. . . there is a readiness to take hard decisions, to settle the whole matter comprehensively, even if it means another mini-general election . . . so let no sitting MP think that there is a fear to expel, a fear to go back to the people (in an election),” the paper’s other source said.

The vitriol, back-stabbing and grand-standing come in direct proportion to the dearth of ideas on how to deliver any of the answers the people need. It's a mirror of the MDC factions, only on a much more theatrical scale.

If a snake says it has changed from a snake to a gundwane should we believe that ? A snake is a snake and it must be treated like that .Mujuru and Mutasa together with Mugabe destroyed this country and that is fact so why do they want to say now they want people to be first when everybody knows they are thieves and racist who own stole farms from whites .Mutasa and Mujuru first give to people some of the farms you got illegally ,denounce 2013 election rigging if you want citizens of this country to take you serious .

Diibulaanyika - 8 April 2015

Zimbabwe needs to go back to a full election - for president and all elected officers. this is a total mess and next year the 2018 polls should be brought forward so that the country can move on and get the economy going again. taneta ne ma dhongi ari kuputsa zimba re mabwe

MUGABE HAD HOPED THAT MUTASA AND OTHERS WOULD ACCEPT THEIR FATE AND GO QUIETLY BUT BY FORMING THEIR OWN PARTY THEY HAVE SHOWN THEY WANT TO FIGHT. MUGABE KNOWS THIS IS NO ORDINARY FIGHT THIS IS A FIGHT TO THE FINISH. WE HAVE TWO COBRAS EACH SIDE WILL WRESTLE BUT WILL BITE TOO!

Wilbert Mukori - 8 April 2015

ZANU PF NEVER CARED FOR THE PEOPLE OF ZIMBABWE. WE ARE IN THIS MESS BECAUSE OF GREEDY LEADERS, WHO ARE ARROGANT AND SELFISH. PEOPLE WHO ONLY THINK OF THEIR FAMILIES. THESE PAST TWO DAYS YOU HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT ZANU PEOPLE FIRST. I AM NOT GOING TO BE FOOLED BY ZANU. YOU PEOPLE YOU NEED TO GROW UP AND MAY BE GO BACKFLIP TO SCHOOL. YOU THINK ZIMBABWE IS YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY. ONE DAY IS ONE DAY , THESE PEOPLE WHO CALL THEMSELVES LEADERS YOU SHALL ANSWER.

zanu pf of mutasa will fullfill the prophecy of jonathan moyo of 1990s. by forming a party they are telling mugabe and mnangagwa that enough of being your stoogies. they are saying you have cause enough damage by your greedy.

ananian - 8 April 2015

The structures for People First seem intact and stronger than Weevils.Goche,Mliswa,Kaukonde,Gwanetsa,Shamu,Callistus Ndlovu,Mutare ambassador and others are not walk overs. My advice to all former provincial leaders is to maintain a low profile and remain in contact with their key members, then strike a few months before 2018.Do not give Moyo a chance to Nikuv the electoral roll.

Kufandada - 8 April 2015

@kufandada at the rate Zpuff is going we are not going to reach 2018. There is RGM arrogantly thinking he is being funny is SA whilst his nation dies. I am disgusted! I wonder what God thinks of all this? In fact I know what He thinks of all this. "They did not know the time of their judgment." "No one repented of his sin..." Words cannot express the pain I feel pain my heart for my nation or the sorrow I feel for the gross sin of Zimbabwe against her God and her people. ZPF are a disgrace! If they are so blind as not to see the fire of God's judgment hanging over them may He, in His mercy, open their eyes before it is too late. Where is the church to bring a prophetic voice to this land?

mdc t ndiwo mamwewo marara chaiwo. same same fanana ne zanu. tsvangirai doctored the mdc t constitution so that he can overstay his stipulated terms of office. people who challenge him are purged just like it is in zanu. perhaps it would be better to go by one of these warring zanus.

Just in the same manner you celebrated Grace's fake death, you are also celebrating and cheering a dead horse. Surprisingly many idiots even believe this hog wash from one of the worst dailies in the history of journalism. At this level and rate the daily news will even fail to be in circulation by the end of this year. What a big yawn.

both mujuru and mutasa we ar at least sympatizing with u but until you tell us the rigging machine that ZANU PF used to rig 2013 election you ar nt serious, if u want our heart jus be man enough to tell us maybe u b at least get political relevance, its not game on until u tell us

president of zim - 9 April 2015

Brother Dlibulaanyika,it seems you got it wrong somewhere somehow. No body took land for the whites because to as far as i know my history no white man or woman had land of his or her own in Zim,unless if you are referring to the days of colonialism.I think you have heard of what is called white settlers? Now what is wrong is how the land reform was executed and the corruption involved. Now going back to your political sentiments.dont be vindicative in mind learn to accept that people learn everyday and nobody is perfect.Thats why there is a saying that goes "better the devil that you know than the one you dont know".Its not rational to be negative about everything because you lose sight with common realities of the day.

carson macate - 9 April 2015

people first, since when? these same guys are the ones who got these wonderful cars from zanu whether they won the election or not in 2013. so what is this people first. as someone said show signs which show true repentance, which Jesus said. sell your riches and give to the poor and then people will know that you are true leaders. sacrifice yourself for the people. dont tell us about your war because in that one you were doing it for yourselfs proof being how rich you are and how poor people are. so think before saying anything about this people first. people first should be seen with the eyes of the Lord Jesus. few leaders in the world have such an eye even Christian leaders. so just steal like your former friends of the old 2014 zanu. our problem will be solved by God not this people first gimmick.

Dont be too emotional guys,i think the Mutasa project is a shot in the arm to the nation. It makes Zanu PF 1.1 weaker and easier to remove.Remember there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics, its only the interests which permanent.Hence it doesnt matter who takes Zim to the promised land as long as this country is cured of its economical, political, moral and social constipation.

@ carson it is difficult to knock some sense in your fully confused head . Some white bought farms after after independence but only to lose it to some idiot who were panicking bcoz a new kid of politics was born the mdc t so zanu used land as a political gimmick which some confused people including carson have not realised up to day .

Diibulaanyika - 9 April 2015

It is time to move with the progressive elements of zimbabwe who have seen the evil and have reufsed to be silenced. Amai Dr Mujuru and all the deemed enemies of Zanu Pf( Grace Mugabe) are worthy to support. My call is for Tsvangirai and Biti to coalese and depose of Mugabe tyranny and subjugation of millions of Zimbabweans. Pamberi ne PEOPLE FIRST PROJECT.

TOM Manjemu - 10 April 2015

lets rally behind mai Mujuru, a reformed Zanu is better than Tsvang & Co. Tsvang has become a dictator in the making, why cant he reliquish power like what Helen Zille did .
