Chitiyo sends DeMbare top

GWERU - Ronald Chitiyo's goal against Chapungu here yesterday was enough to send Dynamos to the top of the Castle Premiership table.

The DeMbare midfielder scored after only 15 minutes after heading home an Ocean Mushure cross to ensure that new coach David Mandigora notched up a second successive win in as many matches.

The Glamour Boys now have six points and lead the log by two points ahead of second placed Triangle, who drew 1-1 away to Buffaloes yesterday.

Yesterday, the Glamour Boys were threatening from the onset and it was no surprise when Chitiyo opened the scoring for the visitors.

With captain Stephen Alimenda controlling the midfield, DeMbare were on top of the situation as they kept Chapungu at bay.

The Glamour Boys have also gone for 180 minutes without conceding a goal and the Chapungu attack found no joy as well yesterday.

An elated Mandigora was pleased with his team’s performance.

“I’m happy with the players and supporters because we managed to collect three points,” he said.

Mandigora also heaped praise of forward Simba Nhivi, who gave the Chapungu defenders a torrid time with his runs.

“Simba played well, he worked hard and it is good for his confidence. This is going to be a tough season and we have to continue playing well,” he said.

His counterpart Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino was, however, disappointed by his team's performance, saying Waru Waru did not create enough chances.

The Air Force of Zimbabwe side has failed to score in their opening two matches thus after theydrew 0-0 with How Mine last weekend.

“We need to work on scoring goals. I am not really moved by today’s the loss,” Nyikadzino said.

He said his game plan was derailed when midfielder Maxwell Mavuto was substituted after taking a knock in the 33rd minute.
