Chicken Inn beat Flame Lily

BULAWAYO - Chicken Inn opened their 2015 season with a deserved 2-1 win against newly-promoted side Flame Lily here yesterday.

Former Tsholotsho FC striker Edmore Chirambadare scored what could turn out to be the fastest goal of the season when he opened the scoring for the Gamecocks after just 40 seconds.

Chirambadare took advantage of some poor defending by Flame Lily, controlling the ball inside the box before placing it beyond the reach of veteran goalkeeper Earnmore Hamandishe.

Buoyed by the goal, the Gamecocks went on to control the match for larger parts of the opening half but failed to turn their dominance into goals as Hamandishe denied them on several occasions.

Joey Antipas’ men increased their lead four minutes after the break when new-signing Mitchelle Katsvairo scored from a rebound.

Chirambadare hit the crossbar and Katsvairo made no mistake from close range before Flame Lily could clear their lines.

Second half substitute Motion Muponda reduced the arrears for the visitors in the 55th minute when he scored just 10 seconds after coming in.

After the match, Antipas praised his players for the good display while his Flame Lily counterpart Nesbert Saruchera blamed inexperience and the heavy pitch for his loss.

Meanwhile, in Zvishavane, FC Platinum rode their luck to force a 2-2 draw and avoid an embarrassing defeat at the hands of newly-promoted side Dongo Sawmills at Mandava yesterday.
