Zim triathletes scoop five medals

HARARE - Zimbabwe's triathlon team picked up five medals at the ATU Sprint Triathlon African Cup held in Buffalo City, South Africa on Sunday.

Leading the 18-team Zimbabwean contingent was Sasha Gemmill and St John's College pupil Drew Williams, who won silver medals in the Under-13 girls' category and Under-19 boys' category respectively. Tyler Martin, Chisipite Senior School's Rebecca Duncan and Gabby De Chassart of Hellenic Academy also weighed in with bronze medals.

The course in Buffalo City included a 750-metre open water swim, a 20-kilometre bike race and a 5km run for the Under-17 and Under-19s.

The team was accompanied by coach Pam Fulton and team manager Tammy Benade and captained by Rebecca Duncan and Gideon Benade.

The next big event on the triathlon calendar is the 2015 Troutbeck ATU Triathlon African Cup that will be held on March 28.

The Troutbeck ATU Triathlon African Cup will include team events in the Adult Sprint (Half) and Adult Standard distances.

Entries for the triathlon and open water swim are still open until March 15.
