Tokwe-Mukorsi musical premieres tonight

HARARE - “Tokwe-MukoRsi: The Musical,” which critically looks at Zimbabwe’s disaster preparedness, will premiere at University of Zimbabwe’s Beit Hall tonight.

The musical features a cast of 30 artistes which includes popular actors, dancers and musicians.

Peter Churu, the executive producer of the production, told the Daily News that “Tokwe-Mukorsi: The Musical” would be the first of many.

“This production is the first of a series of collaborations we have planned with tertiary institutions.

“It is no coincidence that this ground-breaking experimental production is happening at the University of Zimbabwe which is a leading light in innovation,” he said.

“This production is a call to action and as you are aware artistes are influential in terms of influencing societal behaviour.

“Our question really to those in positions of authority is: Suppose it was an Ebola outbreak which is more deadly than the floods how would you have handled it?”

The musical features dancer –cum-musician Kessia Magosha, Rumbidzai Tapfuma, Gamuchirai Dune, Patrick Miller, Rumbidzai Musarurwa, Ngoni Ritala, Liberty Mathole, veteran actress Olivia Mukosi and several other established musicians.
