Zahara, Mafikizolo concert to promote rising artistes

HARARE - Organisers of the much-hyped Zahara-Mafikizolo Harare concert, Simmad Entertainment, say the high-profile concert will go a long way in promoting little known local artistes.

Simba Madziwa, the Simmad Entertainment boss said a good number of upcoming artistes are yearning for an opportunity to prove their mettle at the concert pencilled for March 6.

The concert will take place at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) where South African artistes Zahara and Mafikizolo will take turns to wow fans.

“Apart from the two local supporting acts Jah Prayzah and Pah Chihera, we have decided to include just a few artistes who are equally good though yet to make an impact on the local showbiz.

“Some of the potential artistes whose names I am not going to reveal as of now are even yearning to perform for free just to showcase their talent,” said Madziwa.

Tickets for the concert will be on sale starting on Friday and they will be available at the HICC, Joina City Spar and Focal Point outlets dotted around the capital.

“The tickets are going for $15 and $25 and we are expecting a full house again this time around,” he said.

Zahara will be backed by a 10-piece band while the house music group Mafikizolo has 12 members.

Madziwa said all the tickets will be sold in advance to avoid the chaos that characterised the previous Simmad Entertainment-organised gig that featured Mafikizolo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Alexio Kawara and Tocky Vibes last year in December.

“We want to apologise for what happened last year and as Simmad Entertainment, we take it as a learning curve. Last time, we underestimated the crowd, we were shocked by the turnout. As a result, it exposed our ill-preparedness.

“We are selling all the tickets in advance and no more selling of tickets at the venue. Doors will be open two hours before the concert kick-off time,” he said.

Mafikizolo and Zahara real name Bulelwa Mkutukana have never disappointed fans whenever they perform in the country.

Zahara commands a huge following in Zimbabwe and fans virtually sing along to all of her songs at concerts and these include Lengoma, Loliwe, Destiny, My Guitar, Brand New Day, Shine, Umthwalo, Xa Bendingena Mama, Thekwana, Away, Ndize and Incwad’encane featuring a South Africa-based Zimbabwean artiste George Munetsi among others.

On the other hand, house music duo — Mafikizolo are no pushovers as they are known for hits such as Khona and Happiness among others.
