Northern Region kicks-off in April

HARARE - The World Navi Northern Region Division One League will start on April 4 after all clubs agreed to the date at the league’s Annual General Meeting at the weekend.

“All 18 clubs must pay their affiliation fees before the 13th of March, whoever fails to pay their affiliation fees before this date will not be part of the league and the league will start on April 4,” the league’s chairman Willard Manyengavana told the Daily News yesterday.

“If some of our clubs fail to pay the affiliation fee, we will bring back some of the teams we relegated last season.”

This season will see seven teams joining the league, six from Division Two and Black Rhinos who were relegated from the Caste Premier League last season.

Zatex FC, Blue Jets, DC Africa, Cargo Carriers, ARV and Darwin United are the six teams who were promoted from the third-tier league.

Manyengavana also warned all clubs to prove their financial stability.

“We must avoid the situation of teams failing to fulfil their fixtures as this will have a negative impact on our league.

“In our AGM, we also encouraged clubs to be more professional as we are aiming to lure more sponsors to our league.

“We are very happy that World Navi are also our league’s main sponsor this season.”

Last season, Flame Lilly won the second-tier division championship ahead of second-placed Gunners.
