HARARE - Tonderai Masunga leads the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) Order of Merit following his recent victory at the Julius Robinson tournament at Wingate Golf Club at the beginning of February.
Masunga, who captained the national team to victory at the inaugural Africa Golf Confederation President’s Cup in Zambia last year, shot one-under-par 143 to be crowned champion of the Julius Robinson.
He now leads the ZGA with 249 points.
Thembelani Vundla, who finished fourth at the Julius Robinson tournament, occupies second place on 240 points.
He is closely followed by Doctor Maphosa, who is on 216 points, while last season’s ZGA Order of Merit winner Stuart Krog is in fourth place on 215 points.
Kieran Vincent is fifth on 211 points.
The annual Julius Robinson Trophy was the second tournament on the ZGA calendar after the Dugmore Trophy which was won by US-based top amateur Scott Vincent.
Apart from helping the junior golfers earn points for the ZGA Order of Merit, the two tournaments provided a platform for selectors to choose a team for the 2015 Africa Zone Six Championship.
