Worship Addicts sets up choir

HARARE - Gospel star Takesure Zamar Ncube, who featured on the Joyous Celebration live DVD in South Africa in December last year, is assembling a 30-member choir.

Ncube’s Worship Addicts recently held auditions which attracted over 300 hopefuls. The rising group’s producer Tremier Msipa, Nolan Kahonde and Rumbidzai Sengwayo conducted the auditions.

Ncube, who fronts the Worship Addicts, told the Daily News on Sunday that the initiative is the group’s way of giving back to the community through training and developing future gospel artistes.

“The reason why we came up with the idea of a choir is simply to give back to the community. We want to raise more worshippers for the body of Christ,” Ncube said.

The affable Ncube conceded that his group had underestimated the interest the choir would generate.

“We were overwhelmed by the response. Amazingly more than 300 people came for auditions yet we only wanted just 30 people,” he said.

The Agere Pachigaro singer also confirmed that the choir being assembled will feature in a single to be released on February 25 as part of Ncube’s birthday celebrations.

“Yes, that is now the norm just like I did last year on my birthday when I recorded the now famous Kuregerera In Advance. So on my birthday I will release another celebratory song with the Worship Addicts family,” said Ncube.

Kuregerera In Advance was a hit at the Joyous Celebration live DVD in South Africa last December. The top South African choir’s fans, most of whom largely understood Shona, sang along with gusto when Ncube delivered the song.

Worship Addicts, which released its debut album in 2011, is now one of Zimbabwe’s leading gospel groups.

Along with Zimpraise, the Ncube-led gospel ensemble has registered considerable success on the local and international scene.
