Hondo speaks on Sevens draw

HARARE - Zimbabwe Sevens rugby coach Danny Hondo is not reading too much into the Hong Kong Sevens Core team pre-qualifier draw announced yesterday.

The Hong Kong Sevens takes place from March 27 to 29 with Zimbabwe grouped in Pool G in the qualifier draw along Spain, Tonga, and Guyana.

Uruguay joins Hong Kong in Pool E whilst Papua New Guinea joins Russia in Pool F.

“Basically, the draw is not really a concern because on the day you are going to meet the same teams,” he said.

“We will obviously be cautious with Spain. They were a core team but only came out last year. We will also not underestimate Togo, they are a very good side. We will just go out there and play to our strengths.

“Core status will always be our main goal and this year starting with the Hong Kong tournament we are aiming to get into the circuit, so we are training hard.”

Meanwhile, in the main draw of round six of the HSBC World Sevens Series, Fiji have been drawn with Pacific Islands rivals Samoa and are joined by a resurgent Canada and newsboys Belgium.

In Pool B, New Zealand is joined by rivals Australia alongside Portugal and Scotland. Pool C is made up of current World Series leaders South Africa, France, Argentina and Japan.

Pool D sees USA, England, Kenya and Wales go head to head.

Is it Togo or Tonga? If its Tonga, how can Zim talk of underestimating Tonga?
