ZRU unveils technical teams

HARARE - The Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) has unveiled new assistant coaches and team managers for the various national teams.

ZRU last month named the head coaches for all national teams, who were then tasked with coming up with their own backroom staff.

Amongst the new changes announced yesterday is Sebastian Garikai, who has been appointed the Sables team manager.

Newly-appointed Sables coach Cyprian Madenge is yet to chose his assistant coach.

New Zimbabwe Sevens coach Daniel Hondo will be assisted by John Ewing whilst Steve MacDonald comes in as team manager.

Zimbabwe rugby Under-20 team coach Brendon Brider will be assisted by Bob Mahari while Shaun de Souza is the new team manager.

Cleopas Makatose and Susan Kamukai have been appointed assistant coach and team manager respectively of the Zimbabwe Women’s Sevens team.

“The ZRU has pleasure in confirming the respective technical management groups. In accordance with protocol and stipulated policy, this follows confirmation and recommendations from the head coach of each national team and the appointments committee endorsed by the ZRU Executive,” ZRU said in a press statement this week.

“Additional specialist coaches will be announced as soon details have been finalised through partnerships with South African and the French Rugby Federation.

“It is intended that the best possible technical expertise is put in place for the National XV’s and the Union confirms it will uphold its obligation to ensure this is achieved.”
