Mugabe birthday bash preps advanced

BULAWAYO - Preparations for the 21st February Movement to celebrate the birthday of President Robert Mugabe are now at an advanced stage, Zanu PF Youth League executives have said.

The bash will be held on February 28 at Elephant Hills Golf Course under the theme ‘‘Celebrating the birth of Gushungo, the Icon of Zimbabwe’s revolution and champion of youth empowerment’’.

“Different party committees are working tirelessly to make the bash a success and in a nutshell everything is above board,” Khumbulani Mpofu, the chairperson of the Zanu PF Bulawayo  Youth League told the Daily News.

Mpofu said holding the bash in Victoria Falls will aid youths in Matabeleland North as the league will hold an art exhibition that will run concurrently with the main event.

“This is the first time in over a decade for the birthday to be held in Victoria Falls,” he said. “It is however, an advantage for the people in Matabeleland North and those in the Matabeleland province as a whole. We are calling out for the support of people and everyone is welcome to the bash,” he said.

Mpofu said the youths are promising the nonagenarian fireworks.

“As youths we are promising His Excellency a different and more exciting bash. The day is not just for celebrating the president’s birthday but also his achievements in office since independence. As youths we emulate his works, as he always preaches empowerment to the youths and considers youths as future leaders. We have also invited our sister organisations in other countries through the department of external affairs to come and celebrate with us,” he said.

Cecilia Verenga the Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial secretary for administration, said almost all is set for the birthday celebrations. He said the Youth League has gathered 10 school children who will participate in collaboration with the ministry of Education. The children will travel to Victoria Falls by air.

Established in 1986, the 21st February Movement is an idea of the Zanu PF party to emulate Mugabe’s character.

It is the first project that they work on every year.

In Vic Falls?? Make sure the steps from the plane are in good condition. We do not want to see another unfortunate fall. Please make sure all contractors working on the steps, dias, carpet etc do not do substandard works and are not from the GAMATOX faction or from MDC-T!! Time to employ young and strong aides to pick up the old man when anything happens to him.

Mugabe should stop this personal cult function. It doesn't help anyone other than bootlickers. Honestly, what benefit is it to him and the rest of Zimbabweansß We have moved with the times and the 21st fenbruary movement has long been overtaken by events in world history. He should humble himself!! Sankara Woye!!
