Kwekwe artiste dreams big

HARARE - Upcoming gospel musician Julia Banda says the success of her debut album Jesu Wangu, particularly in her home town of Kwekwe, has encouraged her to dream big.

“My six-track album which has Shona, English and Nyanja lyrics has done very well, far better than I ever thought possible,” she told the Daily News.

“Growing up in Kwekwe, I never imagined that my first album would gain wider acceptance in my home town like this. At this rate, I am confident that I will be able to reach the dizzy heights reached by role models Bethen Pasinawako and gospel legends Baba naMai Charamba.”

Banda, who is backed by the Healing Sounds, recorded her debut album late last year at Lyton Studios in Harare.

“Lyton Ngolomi produced my album while his wife Bethen Pasinawako assisted me in the studio. I am very delighted with the fact that my album was produced by a guy behind hit albums by star musicians like Mathias Mhere and Blessing Shumba,” she said.

“I am confident that Ngolomi’s Midas touch will also take me to greater heights. With God’s help and the support of my church Heal The World ministries led by Apostle Chris Mahovo I am confident that my second album which is still at its formative stages will be an even bigger hit than my debut album.”
