Cassper Nyovest to rock Zim

HARARE - South African hip-hop star Cassper Nyovest’s well-publicised plea for a maiden Zimbabwean gig has finally found a taker.

The Doc Shebeleza hitmaker will perform in Zimbabwe for the first time on Valentine’s Day at the newly-established 1 + 1 Club located at Long Cheng Plaza.

Nyovest publicly pleaded for a Zimbabwean concert on Twitter in September last year.

His September 26 tweet read: “I see a lot of love from Zimbabwe. We need to make a plan, connect me with a promoter or something. I need to hit Zimbabwe soon man!”

With the February 14 gig now a done deal, the award-winning South African musician has found it hard to conceal his delight.

Nyovest confirmed his pending tour of Zimbabwe via a tweet that accompanied a poster for the highly-anticipated concert.

He tweeted: “Zimbabwe!!! It’s no scam!!! It’s no false advertising!!! I’m coming on the 14th of Feb!!!! Long Cheng Plaza!!!Dam!!! It’s crazy!!! I never knew that the movement is so strong in Zimbabwe!!!”

Nyovest appears overwhelmed by tweets coming from excited Zimbabweans.

“There’s so many tweets from Zimbabwean fans... I’m super excited!!! I never knew really!!! Les make it hella!!! See you den!!! 14 Feb!!!”

The talented South African star is scheduled to share the stage with local hip hop favourite Tehn Diamond, Pee Kay and Zimdancehall star Seh Calaz.

A tweet from an excited Zimbabwean fan read, “@CassperNyovest coming to Zimbabwe??!!!!!! Modimo urifile once again!! This should be dope. Need to be there.”

Another avid fan begged for a chance to hang out with the celebrated South African singer.

“I don’t know if it’s true but @casspernyovest since you r coming to Zimbabwe I just wish that one day I would get a chance 2 hang out wth u.”

Some of his popular songs in Zimbabwe include Gusheshe, Ghetto Olympics, and Phumakin.

Born Refiloe Maele Phoolo, Cassper Nyovest released his first official single Gusheshe last year before dropping his explosive debut album Tsholofelo in July this year.

At last year’s South Africa Hip-hop Awards, he won four awards, mostly for the song Gusheshe.

Nyovest — who dropped out of school in 2006 aged 15 — has in a space of a year emerged as one of Africa’s leading hip-hop stars.

The South African scooped three Channel O Music Video Awards which included the coveted Best Music Video of the Year gong as well as the Most Gifted Male and the Most Gifted Artiste in Southern Africa
