Sacked ministers now Parly back-benchers

HARARE - Opposition legislators yesterday laughed at expelled Zanu PF Cabinet ministers as they took their seats in Parliament as back-benchers.

The former ministers walked into the National Assembly led by Webster Shamu, Simbaneuta Mudarikwa, Francis Nhema, Paul Chimedza, Fortune Chasi and Tendai Savanhu.

They all took back seats in the chamber. Before being fired from their ministerial posts, they used to sit in the front row in the National Assembly.

In the Senate, Flora Buka and Dzikamai Mavhaire were also relegated to the back.

MDC MPs clapped their hands while roaring with laughter as the ex-ministers filed in.

Fani Munengami, Glen View North MDC MP, shouted: “Endai munogara kumashure, Chimedza gara kumashure ndokwawava kugara. Newe Webster (Shamu) wava kuuya kuParliament nekuti hausisiri minister. Gara kumashure. (Go and sit at the back, Chimedza sit at the back, that’s your new place now. Webster (Shamu) you are now coming to Parliament because you are no longer a minister. Sit at the back.)”

Parliament was reconvening after a long Christmas break before the ministers were sacked from their Cabinet posts.

Since Parliament adjourned, President Robert Mugabe fired seven ministers and nine deputies in a purge against people suspected to be loyal to former vice president Joice Mujuru, who was also axed.

It's unfortunate that these MDC folks are up to jeering.Like prepubescents while the nation's house is on fire. They should find common ground with these disgruntled ZanuPF exministers. They now have the numbers to stop this dictator. This situation needs a hero. This is a unique juncture in the country's political crossroads. There would never be an opportunity like this in our lifetime...it is God given.

@Mahla they don't spend the session jeering at them but this was just a funny moment before serious business. If you think you can talk sense in ZanuPF parliament then have your heard examined. This parliament only exist so that Mugabe can pick minister as per the constitution after that Parliament is just a lame duck. ZanuPf have made sure the Politiburo is the parliament of Zimbabwe. Even its central committee is useless just post but completely useless.
