Mugabe off to Addis for AU summit

HARARE - President Robert Mugabe flew to Addis Ababa on Wednesday to attend the 24th ordinary session of the African Union.

He is due to be enthroned AU chairman at the summit.

Mugabe, who returned from his annual holiday in the Far East last week before proceeding to the inauguration of the newly elected Zambian president Edgar Lungu, left moments after attending his Zanu PF’s politiburo meeting this afternoon.

The AU summit  is being held under the theme: ‘2015 Year of Women Empowerment and Development’.

The summit will also receive updates on the progress that has taken place in the fight against Ebola, the establishment of the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the AU Agenda 2063, the AU’s peace and security activities, the situation in the Middle East and other matters.

Mugabe was seen off at the Harare International Airport by chief secretary to the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda, minister of State for Harare province, Mirriam Chikukwa, and service chiefs.

Just got an audio from an old schoolmate who witnessed the commotion at the presidential residence. In the audio he claimed there was a high speed motorcade flanking an ambulance not following their normal protocol of maintaining low speed and sirens off while in the area.

Mugabe must be one of the well travelled head of government in the whole world and most of the trips have produced nothing of substance!

Mugabe should make up his mind on whether he would like to be addressed as our most frequent tourist or a part time Head of State. Most will agree with me when I say it's high time he left office permanently so he can go enjoy all that tofu he left his wife munching on in the East. We need a results oriented leadership to take us forward, not these tired ancients who are currently at the helm.

@rudo wandi kuvadza nekuseka. "The off, off, off to President. Always off to somewhere" ndiro zve basa rekutungamira nyika. Leaders are always off to some gathering somewhere. it does to seem that anything substantive materialise from these offs. its just summit after summit...vanhu vachifa nenzara.
