Vincent lifts Dugmore Trophy

HARARE - Scott Vincent showed why his talent has triggered a storm at United States (US)’ Virginia Tech College after blazing to a 16-shot victory in the season-opening Dugmore Trophy at Bulawayo Golf Club on Sunday.

The former St John’s College pupil has been setting the stage alight with a stretch of stellar play for Virginia Tech golf team, a feat that has the hallmarks of a future PGA tour golfer.

And the US-based junior golfer was at it again this past weekend at the traditional season opening event in Bulawayo.

The Chapman Golf Club prodigy was on a roll at the 72-hole tournament carding rounds of 64, 66, 69 and 68 for a total of 21-under-par 267.

His nearest rival Justin Kersten, paying off a handicap of -1, finished a distant 16 shots off the pace in second place on five under par 283, having shot rounds of 67, 74, 74 and 68.

Visitor Mapwanya was a further shot adrift in third place on four-under par 284 following rounds of 71, 74, 73 and 66.

Doctor Maphosa finished in fourth place on five over par 293, whilst Jack Allard and Kieran Vincent were tied in fifth on seven over par 295.

Allard shot rounds of 73, 73, 74 and 75 while Kieran, the young brother of Scott, shot 81, 74, 71 and 69.

The tournament was being contested by a field of 80 of Zimbabwe’s leading amateur golfers.
