Kwekwe hosts darts tourney

HARARE - The National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (Ndaz) will next month hold the inaugural Champions of Champions 2015 Darts tournament at Munyati Power Station in Kwekwe.

The tournament which will be played in a best of 39 format is scheduled for February 28.

Ndaz secretary, Stephen Mwarindira said 16 teams are expected to participate at the tourney. “We are anticipating a hugely-competitive tournament with darts players from eight provinces and these will be put in groups of four,” he said.

“We are hoping for a competitive tourney with a total of 16 teams expected to battle it out for top honours.

“Each province will send two teams which ended in first and second places during the their 2014 darts league respectively.”

Mwarindira encouraged all the provinces that did not turn up in the 2014 edition of the competition to be in attendance this time around.

“All provinces should turn up for this year’s tournament and it should be noted that, only players that played for their teams in 2014 darts are eligible to participate in this tournament whilst those who have joined and are still joining this year (2015) will not be allowed to take part.”

The winners of the tournament will walk away with a price of $500 plus a trophy, shield and medals while the losing finalists will pocket $400.

Those who reach the semifinals will get $300 each while those teams knocked out in the first round will get $200.
