MicInity to launch second album

HARARE - Reggae star Mike “MicInity” Madamombe will launch his much-anticipated second album at Misty’s in Newlands on January 23 which happens to be the Marondera-born artiste’s birthday.

The 12-track album, fittingly titled Survivor, is being unleashed four years after the release of his successful debut offering Freedom.

All the songs on the album except the title track were produced at Konako Studios by Michael Murumbi who is better known on the Zimdancehall scene as PTK (Platinum the Killer).

Survivor was co-produced by Love Johns and Mix Masters.

Potential plug tracks on the imminent album are Song For Mama, a tribute to his late mother and the romantic Girl You Look Good.

MicInity’s spokesperson Stuts Angie told the Daily News yesterday that the video for the title track will also be released during the album launch.

“The video is set to be released on the same day. It was produced by Simba Gee at TMG Studios. Three more videos of songs on the album will be released before March 10 this year.”

Angie is optimistic about the prospects of the 12-track album.

“MicInity’s new album is a must-have for serious reggae lovers. Survivor will reaffirm MicInity’s position as the country’s leading reggae artiste at a time when most upcoming artistes have gone delirious over Zimdancehall,” Angie told the Daily News yesterday.

“The four years since he released the award-winning Freedom have not been easy but thanks to his tenacity he has managed to produce an album that is fittingly titled Survivor. January 23 will be a special day for MicInity and because of that it will be a red carpet, black tie affair.”

According to Angie several leading Zimbabwean artistes mostly from the Zimdancehall genre will grace the Survivor album launch.

“Many of his friends are expected to grace the occasion particularly Guspy Warrior, Soul Jah Love, DJ Ash Styles, Ras Nhombos and other big names in the music industry,” she said.

MicInity, who walked away with the Best Reggae Artiste of the Year Award at the 2013 Zimdancehall Awards, has already made plans to promote his album in Zimbabwe and in the region.

“The tour will take Survivor to Bulawayo, Mutare, Masvingo, Marondera, Gweru, Beitbridge, Victoria Falls, Zambia, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. Dates and venues will be released in due course,” said Angie.
