FC Platinum-Power Dynamos friendly cancelled

HARARE - FC Platinum's preparations for the African Confederation Cup were dented after their scheduled friendly match against Zambian side Power Dynamos at the weekend was called off.

The platinum miners were set to host the Zambians at Mandava Stadium to fine-tune for their preliminary round tie against Kenyan side Sofapaka FC next month.

Norman Mapeza’s men regrouped last week to begin their pre-season preparations and had secured the friendly with Power Dynamos, who are coached by the Zvishavane-based club’s former coach Tennant Chilumba.

Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo confirmed that Power Dynamos, who are also preparing for their Confederation Cup tie against Al Khartoum of Sudan, indicated that they could no longer make it due to other pressing commitments in their country.

Coach Mapeza however, said he is not moved by the developments.

“I don’t think it will have an effect on our preparations because that game had little significance to us,” Mapeza said.

“It could maybe have helped us check our fitness levels. The good thing is the boys are working hard and eager to go. I hope by the time we face the Kenyans we will be up there in as far as our fitness is concerned.”

Platinum travel to Nairobi for the first leg on February 14 before hosting the Kenyans two weeks later at a venue yet to be confirmed.
