Dancers begin 2015 season

HARARE - Celebrated dancers Beverly Sibanda and Zoey Sifelani will be the star attractions tonight at the Super Label Night Club where the Dancers Association of Zimbabwe (Daz) will officially launch its 2015 calendar.

The Super Label event, dubbed “2015 First Dance Clash”, will also feature  David Machowa better known as Apama Styles.

Daz representative Hapaguti “Harpers” Mapimhidze has promised an explosive start to the new year.

“We are happy to open 2015 with a potentially big event in Harare. This year is going to be different as we are urging our members to be creative and introduce new skills on stage rather than repeating the same old stuff,” Harpers told the Daily News.

“Apart from the three big names in the dance industry, we also have names like Syndicate, Unique, Freak Babie Dolls, Cream Lolipop, Fearless, Explosion and Palafala dance groups among others.”

Harpers added that his organisation was working tirelessly to instil discipline among its members.

“Last year was a better year but this time around we are hoping to surpass 2014.”

The dance industry hogged a lot of unnecessary controversy last year that almost paralysed the sector.

Mapimhidze’s gospel of discipline follows the trial of controversial dancer Shantel Chirumuta who is being accused of engaging in a sex act on stage late last year at an entertainment joint in Southerton, Harare.

Chirumuta is being tried for violating the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act which does not allow dancers to come in close contact with revellers while on stage.
