Zifa line-up Young Warriors friendlies

HARARE - The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) says the federation is on the verge of securing friendly matches for the Under-23 side ahead of the African Youth Championship Qualifiers later this year.

“Like we said in 2014, we want to have a vibrant squad so we are going to subject the players to a number of friendly matches,” Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said.

“We have engaged several associations and we are waiting for their response. They are a number of options to play with especially from the region.

“By the end of this week we will have something tangible in terms of who we are going to play and where we are going to camp.”

Calisto Pasuwa’s men have two big assignments coming up starting with the 2015 All-Africa Games qualifier, and African Youth Championships qualifiers, a competition which will culminate into the 2016 Rio Olympic finals.

The Young Warriors face Swaziland next month in the first round of the All-Africa Games qualifiers and the winner of the two-legged encounter will take on West African giants Cameroon in the second and final qualifying round.

The first round matches would begin on the weekend of February 20 to 22 for the first leg before the reverse fixture two weeks later.

The second qualifier will be played on the weekend of March 22 to 24 and the winner of the Zimbabwe/Swaziland match will then travel to Yaoundé for the decisive reverse fixture on the weekend of April 10 to 12.
