Garanganga receives Davis Cup special mention

HARARE - Zimbabwe's number one tennis player Takanyi Garanganga is ecstatic to have received honourable mention in the 2014 Davis Cup MVP Awards.

Garanganga led Zimbabwe to promotion from Africa Zone Group III, winning all three singles rubbers and the only doubles rubber he contested.

That feat has not gone unnoticed, after he was the only African singled out for honourable mention in the first instalment of the unofficial 2014 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Awards released last week.

"I'm so grateful for the honourable mention in the 2014 Davis Cup MVP Awards," Garanganga posted on his Facebook page.

"It has been an honour representing Zimbabwe. The team and I will continue to do our best to keep the flag flying high, it's not easy, but it's certainly most rewarding to do what you dreamed of as a kid. All I can say is, 'WE WILL BE READY' for our tie on March sixth in Harare, Zimbabwe.

"All would not be possible without the Admin Staff at Tennis Zimbabwe, Sponsors, Supporters and our captain, Martin Dzuwa - Team Zimbabwe!"

Zimbabwe's Davis Cup team faces Bosnia and Herzegovina from March 6 to 8 in Harare.

The Dzuwa-captained side won the Team of the Year for 2014 at the Annual National Sports Awards in December.

That followed a successful campaign in Egypt where a five-man Zimbabwe team won promotion to the Africa Group II.

It ended an eight-year wait to gain promotion into the Davis Cup Euro/Africa Zone Group II.
