Buz gear up for joint qualifiers

HARARE - Zimbabwe's basketball teams are optimistic of prevailing at the All-Africa Games and Afro-Basketball qualifying tournaments that takes place in Bulawayo next month.

The 2014 Afro-Basketball qualifiers bring together South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Angola and the host nation.

Only two teams qualify for the Afro Basketball and the All-Africa Games.

Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (Buz) secretary general Joe Mujuru said preparations are at an advanced stage.

“We are on course. We believe we are going to qualify,” Mujuru said.

“The good thing is that the provinces have started playing, their season runs through Christmas so our players are not short of game time. We also have the inter-provincials coming up on February 7 and 8.

“Finances allowing we would like to bring some of our players from outside the country. But that will involve air tickets and the like, which we may not be in a position to do.

"But that being said, I still feel we have the best team possible.”
