Wadyajena ordered to pay $450 child support

HARARE - A Harare magistrate yesterday ordered Gokwe-Nembudziya Zanu PF MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena to pay $450 for the upkeep of a child he fathered with Wadzanai Mudare.

Magistrate Tafadzwa Muvhami handed the ruling yesterday following an application for an enquiry to justify the previous $1 500 maintenance order.

He said it was the duty of both parents to take care of the child.

“Respondent (Wadyajena) has a wife who is not employed, and two daughters whose welfare he is responsible.

“He pays school fees for the kids at Heritage College including for the child in question,” Muvhami said, further ordering him to cater for the child’s other needs.

The flamboyant parliamentarian had offered to pay $200, claiming he could no longer afford to pay the $1 500.

During an enquiry into the maintenance saga, an emotional Mudare said Wadyajena was rich, but did not want to take care of his daughter.

She sensationally claimed that the legislator had impregnated and dumped her.

Mudare said the youthful MP was living a lavish life while neglecting his daughter.

“Akandiramba iri nhumbu (he dumped me when I was pregnant). Nine years ndikagara nemwana, ndakakurira kuMbare (I stayed with the child for nine years. I grew up in Mbare),” she said.

She further said if Wadyajena could not longer maintain his flamboyant lifestyle, he should sell one of his trucks, at least to cater for his child.

She said the MP had erected a bill board in his constituency, which cost $3 000 and attracts monthly payments of $500.

“Why would he want to pay maintenance of $200 for his child?” she asked.

“I have never stayed with him, but I know he wears clothes worth $3 000 at any point and drives expensive cars.”

Mudare filed a claim in the Civil Court seeking that the MP pay $11 600 towards the upkeep of their daughter last year.

The case was back at the Civil Court after Wadyajena approached the High Court, claiming the lower court failed to conduct a thorough enquiry with regards to the maintenance that was requested.

Dzikamai Machingura appeared for Wadyajena, while Jonas Dondo represented Mudare.
