Platinum line up friendlies

HARARE - FC Platinum are on the verge of securing friendly games as part of preparations for their 2015 Confederation Cup preliminary round tie against Kenyan side Sofapaka FC next month.

The Chibuku Super Cup winners have engaged teams from Zambia, Botswana and South Africa in efforts to sharpen up ahead of Africa’s second-tier inter-club competition.

Platinum are Zimbabwe’s sole representatives in Africa following champions Dynamos’ decision to pull out of the African Champions League this year due to financial constraints.

Club spokesperson Chido Chizondo confirmed that the Zvishavane miners have lined-up at least three warm-up games against clubs within the Southern African region.

Coached by former Zimbabwe captain Norman Mapeza, platinum players have recently started off-season preparations after undergoing medicals last week.

The club retained the core of the team from last season while adding a few new faces from their academy. They finished fourth on the Castle Premiership table in 2014.

Of the players coming in from elsewhere, topping the list is midfielder Wellington Kamudyariwa who joins from Shabanie Mine alongside highly-rated Black Rhinos midfielder Brian Muzondiwa.

Platinum travel to Nairobi for the first leg on February 14 before hosting the Kenyans two weeks later at a venue yet to be confirmed.
